Review- Whole Vegetarian Restaurant

Whole Vegetarian Restaurant is located at 3068 Main Street, and offers delicious Asian vegetarian foods. They usually open around 11am and close at midnight, but call 604 876 8899 for exact hours.

Whole Vegetarian Restaurant has friendly and fast service, along with a large menu. Many of their dishes are made to actually mimic non-vegetarian foods, such as their 'sweet and sour vegetarian fish', or their vegetarian cutlets with orange sauce. They also have vegetarian chicken and plenty of tofu, vegetable, noodle, and rice dishes. The portions are quite big and each dish can definitely be shared.

Their bean curd skin with black bean sauce was just delicious. It was served hot, and the sauce was lighter than most black bean sauces I have tried before. If you have never had bean curd before, this is a great item to try! The texture is so unique because it's crunchy on the outside and so soft on the inside.

The vegetable chow mein came out sizzling hot with saucy, crunchy noodles- very tasty! The vegetables on top included broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, and some deep-fried tofu.

As a lighter dish, I thoroughly enjoyed their broccoli with oyster mushrooms. The mushrooms were so meaty and had great flavour.

My favourite dish was the vegetarian cutlets in orange sauce. First of all, the sauce had a lovely citrus flavour which I would enjoy on almost anything, I think! The cutlets themselves were brilliant. Having been a vegetarian for ten years, I can't exactly remember the taste of meat, but I think these had a very similar texture and flavour. I would return for this dish alone, without a doubt.

The meal was served with complimentary jasmine tea and for a nice finish, a cookie at the end. Each entree seemed to be about ten to twelve dollars, and judging by the leftovers you will be packing up and taking home, it's a great deal. Try Whole Vegetarian Restaurant next time you find yourself on Main Street in Vancouver!
