Milk. If you have kids, it is always at the top of your shopping list. Mainers are lucky that Oakhurst was the first dairy in the country to have their farmers sign a pledge not to use artificial growth hormones. But many farmers do pump up their cows with hormones in order to boost milk production and that gets consumed by our kids.
Recently, MOO MILK (Maine's Own Organic) is appearing on the shelves giving shoppers another option in their quest for pure milk. The farmers who produce this milk not only promise to ban the use of growth hormones but to also give the cows loads of sunshine, fresh air, sprawling pastures and healthy food.
In the Portland area alone, there are 38 places where you can buy MOO--here is a link from the MOO website that shows where you can purchase it locally. http://www.moomilkco.com/moomilk-store-locations
If your local shops don't carry MOO, ask them to consider it. All families in Maine should have access to the highest quality milk for their families.
Hannaford Stores recently dropped the price of MOOMilk by 30-cents a half gallon to $3.99. Now you can buy pasteurized Maine-produced and Maine-processed organic milk for the same price as the national out-of-state brands.
