The next several days will offer opportunities for sampling some great vegan food in New Orleans. This Saturday, August 7th there will be a vegan bake sale uptown outside of Hey Cafe on Magazine St. The sale will go from 9am until noon and proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana. The bake sale is being organized by members of the NOLA Vegan Bakers.
For those interested in having some healthy but delicious raw vegan cuisine be sure to attend the monthly New Orleans Raw Potluck this Tuesday, August 10th, at 7pm. The potlucks are held in the upstairs meeting space at the Fair Grinds Coffee House on 3133 Ponce deLeon off Esplanade St.
The New Orleans Raw Potluck was originally started by local trumpet legend Charlie Miller before Katrina and recently has been reinstated. It is a great way to meet all kinds of people and try raw cuisine. Please bring a dish of your own to share.
A note on raw food from Charlie "Some well meaning souls have been bringing cooked foods a little. Most of us eat some cooked foods on our own. But for this group let's please try to keep it 100% raw plant foods. That would mean no beer, breads, cooked spaghetti, no cooked commercial salad dressing, especially if it contains eggs or honey. Basically it means - nothing cooked and only from plants. Thanks much for your efforts cooperating with the RAW food group on this. Everyone's efforts and intentions are noticed and sincerely appreciated."
Charlie reccomends the Raw Guru web site for recipes. There is a larger selection on the Living and Raw Foods website. For some of the philosophy and claimed benefits of a raw food diet check out Raw Food Life.
