My visit to the Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary

The Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary may be my vegan Disneyland.  This isolated open area is home to llamas, cows, turkeys, chickens, roosters, goats, geese, ducks, pigs, sheep, cats, and other small animals.  Many of these animals have been rescued from abusive situations and are now free to roam and continue the remainder of their life as naturally as possible.

Owners Michelle and Chris also allowed me to interview them about their dedication to the sanctuary.  I filmed this for The Vegan News originally with news stories (mentioned in the very beginning of Part 1 but never explained) however, I found the topics addressed in the interview so compelling, I decided to turn the interview into a two part special.

Part 1

Besides the animals themselves, I was also impressed by the thoroughness of Chris and Michelle's mission.  The sanctuary is run completely by volunteers with no paid employees.  While the animals have the sanctuary on which to live for the time being, PPS is not shy about their campaigns for veganism.

Recently, the sanctuary acquired neighboring property which has now been converted into expanded grazing room with a visitors house where guests can stay the night, converse, or learn about veganism with their vegan education center, currently under construction.

Part 2

Unfortunately, this visitor's house has a faulty roof which will be needing repair before winter.  I'm currently working with Michelle and Chris on a campaign to fix this roof before October.  I'll have the full details on August 10th.  For now, visit the PPS website where you may learn about veganism, the truth behind "humane" farming, and make a donation or sponsor an animal.

Roof and foundation both falling apart, that is a shame. (Intellectual foundation that is.) Fact is humans are feeding the "rescued" animals, and they still look terrible. Indeed, worse than most of those I see farmed for profit. They are relying on volunteers and donations. Who will volunteer/donate to save the rest of the farm animals when no one eats meat anymore? Who will feed them? Oh, yes, starving to death is "nature" and not cruel at all. No problemo with wolves and cougars ripping their flesh apart while they thrash in futile attempts to escape. Coyotes and foxes can run down the young, bleating for their mother's protection. By the way, what about that egg? It is OK for the chickens to engage in cannibalism, but wrong for humans to eat the egg? Foxes, coyotes, and other birds would eat the eggs, too, but it is only wrong for humans? I see you are the specieist! You want special rules for humans.
