We assume specialty vegan restaurants in big cities like Los Angeles are looking out for us vegans, making sure our food is cruelty-free and completely plant-based. Well I have bad news for you:
In what looks like a photo set of pregnancy tests is the result of piles of money and time spent meticulously testing LA vegan restaurants for sources of egg, casein (a milk protein), and shellfish.
Apparently, this comes as no surprise to the blog having already found questionable ingredients in the dumpster of a supposedly vegan restaurant. (Below)
My readers have also been disappointed by the reports of faux fur being tested positive for the fur of a freaking racoon. I wasn't so worried about that, but vegan restaurants?
Blogger Mr. Meaner at QuarryGirl.com reports on the extensive study which led to some shocking results. Read the complete study to see how everything was done. Otherwise, here's the bottom line:

Re the photo of Bisquick above, from where did that photo originate ? Are restaurants buying mock meats that are not vegan, and/or they rolling something in Bisquick which contains milk protein? What an interesting and disturbing expose.'
That's disturbing. Can't people just be honest? Though, frankly, I always get suspicious about waiters in restaurants who are not from my culture and who I therefore can't read very well when they assure me what appears to be over-confidently and un-thoughtfully that an item is "vegan."
I care more about the poor raccoons that are being touted as faux fur that have to give their LIVES for "fashion". That is FAR more disturbing to me than a little milk or egg protein around a meat substitute. Though I'm not completely vegan, I personally get my eggs from a local farm where I can see the chickens running around in their large enclosure and NOT cooped up in a teeny tiny cage. The only reason they are enclosed at all is to protect them from predators having a chicken meal, otherwise they would be entirely without limits on their running room. I feel this is a great compromise to not eating eggs at all.
Got something to say?
