Due to the huge success of the HBO Vampire Show- True Blood and the rise in sales of the Sookie Books by Charlaine Harris, there is a new project that is to link the two together.
True Blood will be beginning it's third season in June on HBO. After meeting some criticism due to it not following the Sookie Series by Charlaine Harris, those readers and scores of fans have accepted it of it's own accord. It is now HBO's most popular show since the Soprano's.
The story is about a southern waitress named Sookie who is also a telepath who meets a vampire at her bar. The vampires have recently " came out of the coffin" and is trying to acclimate to society. From this point her world is no longer the same. She meets witches, fairies, werewolves, shifters, and a host of other supernatural creatures. She solves mysteries and falls in love.
But the show and the books separate there in regards to similarities. Alan Ball was given creative license with Harris' characters and have come up with a hit of his own - True Blood.
Due to the popularity and to try and link the two there is a huge project in the making- The Sookie Companion.
Charlaine Harris said on her website that "We’re offering a two-week time period in which you can send your questions to ( True Blood's) producer/director/writer Alan Ball, who will answer them in the Companion. My assistant, Paula, will collect all your questions and send them to the editor at TeknoBooks who’s responsible for coordinating all the elements going into the Companion, which we hope will be out next year. Paula and the editor will weed out redundant questions. Of course, these questions should focus on the TV series “True Blood,” and they should be sent to: askalanb@yahoo.com. This address is ONLY for this special project."
The companion is rumored to hold character listing, a map, recipes, and connections between the show and the books.
Charlaine Harris hosts her own forum for the books as does HBO for the television series.
Sookie book fans can look forward to the ninth book of the series " Dead in the Family" to come out in May.
Lexington fans have praised the series as "an adult book that really holds interest and isn't just sex" , " an example of a southern girl that can stand on her own thus a great role model"
There is in the works a local book release party for the book and possible viewing of the series in May.
