Carl Richardson spent the better part of his prime in New York City. Among his questionable activities was frequenting all the retro theaters. He not only saw as many old movies as he possibly could but also studied them. He graduated, wrote one book, taught a few classes, and then moved on. Despite the advent of videotape, DVD, and all manner of high-tech, he was unable or unwilling to keep up with what is current. He maybe got older and lost his cool. But the subject of film in connection with just about everything else has never left. His single book on film noir more or less pinpointed the section of film history that most interested him. He likes the black and white classics filled with cigarette smoke and characters whose motives are not always above board. Perhaps this is the filter or lens through which he sees films today.
