Trojans face Loyola Marymount Lions tonight at Galen

The University of Southern California men's basketball team squares off against the Loyola Marymount Lions tonight in the Trojans’ second game of the season.

Southern California, who won its season opener this past Tuesday, faces a Lions team that has already racked up three losses to go along with one win this season.

The Trojans have only one member of the team remaining from when these two teams last met in 2006, a young freshman by the name of Dwight Lewis.

In that game against the Loyola Marymount, Lewis was held scoreless in 22 minutes of play, something that cannot happen if Southern California wants to get the win tonight.

Against UC Riverside on Tuesday, senior guard, Dwight Lewis, paced Southern California's offense with 22 points, hitting 3-of-5 shots from three-point range in helping head coach Kevin O'Neill capture his first victory as a coach of the Trojans.

With injuries and suspensions mounting for the Trojans, Coach O'Neill played a rotation that consisted of just seven players and the team held on to beat the Highlanders, 77-67.

Besides Lewis' strong performance against UC Riverside, Southern California received healthy contributions from junior guard Marcus Simmons and forward-center Nikola Vucevic, who each had 18 points for the Trojans.

The Lions are led by guards Larry Davis and Vernon Teel, along with leading scorer and former Oregon Duck, Drew Viney, who is averaging 18 ppg through four games.

In the next few games, the undermanned Trojans team should get a boost from the return of a number of notable players.

Guard Romeo Miller is set to make his debut after being suspended one game by the NCAA for illegal promotional work he participated in over the summer.

Forward Alex Stepheson, who has been nursing a knee injury sustained in practice, could also potentially make his first appearance of the year tonight.

If you need something to do this Saturday night, head on down to the Galen Center and catch the Men of Troy as they take on Loyola Marymount. Game tips off at 5 pm.
