Is the Federal Reserve bringing US and world economies down?

The Inspector General of the Federal Reserve in the video below acknowledges that trillions of dollars cannot be accounted for. The astonishing five-minute clip is taken from a Congressional hearing where Federal Reserve Inspector General Elizabeth Coleman is questioned by Congressman Alan Grayson of Florida on May 6th about huge amounts of money for which the Federal Reserve is responsible.
The Inspector General avoids answering almost every question asked by the Congressman. In fact, she appears in this video clip to know less about the finances of the Federal Reserve than Congressman Grayson.
Among the many important questions raised, Grayson requests information on the Bloomberg report that many trillion of dollars in credit have been extended by the Federal Reserve. When the Inspector General avoids answering, Grayson states, "If you're not responsible for investigating that, who is?" Once again, she avoids the question stating, "We've not gotten to a specific level of detail to really be in a position to respond to your question."
At another point, Coleman answers a further question with, "We are not in a position to say whether there are losses." Yet if the Inspector General of the Federal Reserve cannot account for trillions of dollars extended, who can? Grayson holds his composure very well throughout the questioning. He concludes, "I have to tell you honestly, I am shocked to find out that nobody at the Federal Reserve, including the Inspector General, is keeping track of [the unaccounted for trillions]."

Because of severe problems like those revealed in this video, Representative Ron Paul of Texas is sponsoring a bill to audit the Federal Reserve. HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act, would force the Reserve to be accountable to the public. Congressman Ron Paul already has 179 co-sponsors of the bill, and that number is growing. What most people don't realize is that the Federal Reserve is neither fully federal, nor a true reserve. In fact the Reserve is owned by its member banks and not by the government. Yet it issues money for the U.S. government (look at the top of any dollar bill), and then charges the government interest on this money it lends. There is also Trillions missing from the Pentagons till according to Rumsfield himself , as he told us all on 9/10/01 - for some reason the taxpayers just don't seem to care .

This is a response to "G's" comment.
I don't see how the Pentagon's loss of funds justifies the Fed's loss of funds. The money loss of both departments should be found and corrected.
The CEO of GM was forced out, early retirement for GM's failure which only involved billions of bailout money, yet the Inspector General of the Federal Reserve, who cannot account for trillions, still has a job--absurd.
As far as "G's" observation, "For some reason the taxpayers just don't seem to care." I would have him tell me what news paper carried this on their front page. Most likely it was carried in Obituary section.
What TV news station carried this as breaking news, or, even mentioned it during primetime. Of curse, "G" knows about Rumsfeld's confession, because we heard of it from ever news source we have on this planet, it was excreted from every media orifice there is.
Absolutely frightening.

And I wouldn't put it past them to have started up another Federal Reserve, of course, calling it something else. And that may possibly be where the money went. And all this with the Inspector is all a front.
Can anyone believe that the Inpector General of the Federal Reserve could come to the table so unprepared? How many business people of that rank in the commercial business world do you think would keep their job after such a poor performance? Unreal.. and I'm afraid this will just get brushed under the table along with the other problems we have.
The Federal Reserve has bankrupted America. Has anyone investigated how much they have made or stand to make from lending America money for the War on Terror?
If the Fed has never been audited since 1913, and 7 million is just recently missing, how many trillions of dollars have the big bankers stolen in 98 years?
The Bilderbergers, Masons, The New World Order and with the banks controlling all funds, WOW! Let's hire some more wolves to watch the chickens.
I also think that we should make it easier to become the esteemed leader of the U.S.! If you are born in another country? say Africa, or anyplace else, why not just present a forged birth certificate? That forgery sould satisfy anyone. Right? WRONG!
If you steal a loaf of bread that is called petty theft. If you steal a car, that is called grand theft. Both of these thefts can land a person in jail.
If one were to become president of the U.S. by deception and fraud, what would that be called? If citizens are so stupid to allow someone to throw stones at our constitution, then I guess we deserve what we got; however, this deception is a crime and a very serious crime that should receive serious punishment.
It would seem just that surely a crime of this magnitude deserves a jail sentence of at least that of a drug dealer. 40 years in jail and a very large fine would satisfy me. HOW ABOUT YOU? I am in China and the Chinese government would never put up with anything like this. I received a warning because medical problems delayed my visal by only 9 hours. With two warnings a person gets thrown out.
