Did you know that the world's fastest electric motorcycle can rip from 0 to 60 mph in less than one second? Did you know that the world's fastest electric car clocks the quarter mile mark in under 12 seconds? Many people still believe electric vehicles don't have much power, yet these dragsters are blowing those outdated beliefs away.
The KillaCyle, owned and designed by Bill Dube, is in hot pursuit of world speed records for all motorcycles. This lightning quick bike is already the world’s fastest electric vehicle of any kind in the quarter mile with a time of 7.89 seconds and speed of 174 mph, set in October 2008 at Bandimere Speedway.
An NBC article describes the potential threat of clean, speeding electrons to polluting, gas guzzling speedsters, which could become a relic of the past. Scotty Pollacheck is the driver who spurs Killacyle to victory.
Pollacheck crosses the quarter-mile marker ... faster than any of the gas-powered cars, trucks or motorcycles that have raced in the drag sprints on this weekend at Portland International Raceway. It's particularly impressive given Pollacheck is riding a vehicle that uses no gasoline and is powered entirely by lithium-ion batteries. The bike accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just under a second — faster than many professional gas-powered drag motorcycles and within striking distance of the quickest bikes that run on nitromethane.

Though not quite as fast, the speediest electric cars are turning heads at dragstrips, too. John Wayland's unassuming 1972 Datsun "White Zombie" is blowing away the competition at local speedways. Nothing will convert petrol heads to electric faster than seeing their beloved big block V8 blown away by a tiny old Datsun powered by an electric motor.

Wow they ran that bike here outside of Denver! I wish I would have known. I would have gone and seen it. It is interesting they mentioned the silly unpractical low capacity volt, instead of the Tesla cars that get enough mileage to be practical.
The Tesla is nice, but it is way too expensive for most of us poor folks. Although the Volt isn't for those on welfare, it should still be within the reach of most people. Aside from the tax incentives that will probably be available and the immediate impact on you wallet with not having to fill up every week, I think you will see considerable savings with a few years.
