A woman in her 70’s was pulled from the Haiti earthquake rubble 7 days after the devastating earthquake left the nation of Haiti in ruins. The woman’s name is Ena Zizi and she was trapped under the National Cathedral. At 70 years old, it is astonishing that she was able to survive an entire week without food or water.

The race for aid in Haiti (photos, slideshow, videos)

As is the case with many Haiti earthquake survivors, it was initially unclear whether Ena Zizi would receive the medical attention needed after being rescued. She was severely dehydrated and had suffered multiple broken bones. Fortunately, she was taken by helicopter to a hospital aboard a Coast Guard ship and will receive the treatment needed. Her rescue has inspired many with hope that their loved ones may too be found and brought to safety. Relief workers have heard more sounds coming from the rubble and are searching for more survivors.

What might be even as great a miracle as Ena Zizi’s recovery is how rescue workers found her. One of the people that searchers are looking for is responsible for Ena’ s rescue. A text message was sent by someone under the rubble notifying associates of Ena’s that she was alive. Rescue workers had not planned on combing the area, but were did so after the text message was sent.
