On Saturday, celebrations took place internationally to commemorate what would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday. Spike Lee’s Prospect Park tribute drew thousands of fans who celebrated the King of Pop’s memory and music.
In Las Vegas, Jackson was posthumously given a star on the Palms Casino Resort’s Walk of Fame, while his father, Joe Jackson, and fans looked on. The song ‘Thriller’ set the mood, resounding from surrounding speakers after the star was unveiled.
“I wish he was here to see this take place,” said the elder Jackson.
In actuality, the singer had been involved in coordinating the ceremony to unveil the star, which began two years ago, according to event organizers.
Emcee Robin Leach said, “The plan was that Michael would accept the star after the run of London shows.”
