Tropical Depression 9 forms as Hurricane Earl, Tropical Storm Fiona approach U.S. East Coast
Tropical Depression 9 has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, as Hurricane Earl and Tropical Storm Fiona approaches the United States East coast. Tropical Depression 9 is located approximately 830 miles West Southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. If it continues to strengthen and organize, it will become Tropical Storm Gaston.
Meanwhile, the East Coast is preparing for Hurricane Earl’s impact. Downgraded to a category three, Hurricane Earl has not lost its potential for destruction. Hurricane warnings and watches are underway in North Carolina and Virginia and Earl may impact as far north as Maine.
Tropical Strom Fiona is moving towards the Leeward Islands and the storm may continue to strengthen over the next 24 hours.
As of 11:00 a.m., September 1, 2010, Hurricane Earl is located approximately 725 miles south southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, Tropical Storm Fiona was located 100 miles east northeast of the Leeward Islands and Tropical Depression 9 was located 830 miles west southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
