Earlier today, TMZ dropped a bombshell: an exclusive photo of John F. Kennedy on a boat surrounded by naked women. Later, the story was proved to be a hoax and was actually a photo that was part of a Playboy spread about vacationing and luxury yachts. The Smoking Gun broke down the truth of the story and revealed that the tabloid site had fallen for a hoax.
The TMZ story was ripe with juicy gossip and perfect for tabloid fare. The photo was said to have been in the possession of a man who died ten years ago and the photo slipped into his son’s possession.
In the photo you can see what appears to be John F. Kennedy on a yacht while two naked women are off to the side of the boat and two other women are on the above deck sunbathing in the nude. From the photo, it appears that the shot was posed. If the photo were taken during a casual moment during the day, and shot without the awareness of those on the yacht, it is doubtful that the photo would have been so perfectly staged.
TMZ stated that the photo, if it had been revealed before the presidential elections, could have changed world history. That may be true: should the photo have proved to be the unearthed scandal that TMZ suspected. It wasn’t. That isn’t to say, however, that John F. Kennedy hasn’t been associated with scandalous rumors as many suspect that he was involved in an extramarital affair with Marilyn Monroe.
Playboy confirmed to the Smoking Gun that they ran the photo spread in 1967, the man in the photo was not former president John F. Kennedy, as he was assassinated in 1963, but a model who was hired for the shoot. The title of the spread was: Charter Yacht Party: How to Have a Ball on the Briny with an Able-Bodied Complement of Ship’s Belles. There has been no word as to how much TMZ paid for the photo.
