The pain is evident. A woman lies in a hospital desperately waiting medicine and treatment. The world has rallied together as the race against time wagers on. As pictures and video surface of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake’s aftermath, the horrors of the injuries and seriousness of the situation becomes gravely real. The situation seems to grow worse by the minute.

The bodies of the dead are piling up in the street and those who are clinging to life are in desperate need of attention. The people of Haiti need basics and they need them fast: water, food, medical supplies such as bandages, and shelter. While the race to deliver aid continues rescuers continue their attempts to free those trapped and buried under crumbled buildings and concrete structures.

People are begging for help and begging for medical attention. Though the world has readily and willingly given at first news of the catastrophe, delivering aid has proved to be a difficult challenge. Many of the areas are remote, roads are destroyed, and assessment teams have been dispatched to handle delivering aid to Haitians before it’s too late.

While the Haitian leadership has dispersed and is in utter despair, some have found their own ways to provide relief and help free those who are trapped. Strangers who have survived are working together to assist those buried and pinned underneath buildings, however, the situation is grim and time is running out.
