If you missed last night’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance, you missed an incredibly emotional performance. The song “This Woman’s Work” written by British artist, Kate Bush, sets the scene for an incredibly heart wrenching performance. Maxwell has performed the song that is the background for a dance focusing on the struggle a woman faces when undergoing breast cancer.
Ellen DeGeneres is a guest host, and the panel, as well as the audience, are all moved to tears. In the video player below, I’ve included the Breast Cancer dance, including the judge's comments, as well as Mawell’s and Kate Bush’s performance of the song.
Any woman who is facing breast cancer, breast cancer survivors, or those who've lost loved ones to breast cancer will undoubtedly be moved by this performance. It is extremely powerful for anyone whose life has been directly impacted by cancer.
The choreography was produced by Tyce DiOrio, the dance was performed by Melissa and Ade. The second video is Maxwell singing the song live, and the third video features Kate Bush singing "A Woman's Work" and has the lyrics to this powerfully moving song.
Tyce DiOrio was nominated in 2009 for an Emmy. It is very likely that he will be nominated for this performance as well.

Must see this
this was incredibly moving.......i was glad to see the judges moved to tears as i was in my own living room............i had to think it was too bad if obama (who was giving his speech on health care) didn't get to see this as he lost his mother to breast cancer......hopefully someone will make sure that he sees it.................
I could not stop crying while watching this moving performance. I lost my mom and many friends to cancer and it definitely struck a nerve.
I agree with Ellen. This was the most beautiful dance that I have ever seen. I don't think that either of these dancers will win this season's show....BUT we will NEVER forget how they executed this dance.
THE PIECE WAS AMAZING AND I HATE TO TOUCH THE POLITICAL ON THIS BUT IF OBAMA SEES IT MAYBE HE WILL REALIZE HOW MANY MORE WILL DIE OF BREAST CANCER IF THE HEALTH CARE HE WANTS GOES THROUGH. AS A DOCTOR I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. BUT BACK TO THE DANCE...AMAZING.
This is without a doubt the most emotional piece of art I have ever seen. It brought ever emotion into play. I had chills and tears and sat there wondering how someone could have possibly put something this breath taking into a dance. Job well done and it's something I'll never forget. Thank you Tyce for sharing you heart with us.
LOVE
It was lyrical and magic!. As a recent survivor in her thirties of stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer and a former lifelong gymnast...This dance resonated with my wild warrior spirit..Everyone has told me for the last 2.5 years to write a book about the chemotherapy, radiation, mastectomies, bone marrow transplant, reconstruction...BUT I don't want to.. I don't want to write about HELL....and losing my sensual body. I want to DANCE through it back to LIFE and my LOVER...I just started doing gymnastics and dance again and I felt like the dancers in the video truly understood...It was magic. Thank you for giving me just the strength I needed...
This video REALLY touched my heart. July a few short months ago my Grandmother passed away from Breast Cancer. That was just amazing!
Not only breast cancer, but ANY cancer. I'm grieving the loss of my husband 3 l/2 months ago to this disease and this video brought back sadness, regret for things unsaid, undone. And courage to go on without my darling Bill. Incredible dancing - incredible singing - incredible hope in those flying leaps, Melissa, and in those astonishing catches, Ade. I am not the same person after having viewed this. Thank you, Tyce.
If we do NOT get the health care program President Obama is trying so hard to push through, we surely WILL lose more women to breast cancer, and more citizens to all kinds of cancer.
yes i teared up then and now thinking and hearing those words
I have been so deeply impacted by this video, I don't believe I will ever look at another dance again. This dance is important. It is phenomenal.
I love the dance very much, but why does everyone keep talking about Obama??
I love the energy of this show and the dedication of instructors and the bond this dance show creates for these talented young beings. I was almost praying that someone would use a song done by Maxwell; knowing just his beautiful voice and being would inspire any dancer. Let's also thank Maxwell for being so open with himself and sharing himself so intimately in this song. Thank you, Maxwell.
This dance and song makes me cry every time i see or hear it, my brother who had just turned 40 in January fought a 4 1/2 year battle with colon cancer and died on April 20th 2009, he was my best friend and left a young family and his wife did every thing in the world for him, worked a job and a half took care of the house and kids aged (at the time 14 and 12) and still took him to every apt.he had and I was on my way to see him when he died as I was on the road. It was the hardest thing I ever experienced in my life and I don't think I will ever get over it, but thanks to you for bringing cancer to the surface of a beautiful dance. Even though it was for breast cancer I still cry for all cancers, Love to all!!!!!
Beautiful simply beautiful. 'This Woman's Work' is an automatic tear jerker for me. This couple was so under-rated. Flawless performance.
And health care reform will save lives not shorten them. And those who believe otherwise are just tools for the insurance industry. Every major country has national health care but the US and they all live longer lives than US citizens. All of them.
This piece of time in this dance was so precious to me. I watched it and recorded it and played it over and over again. This was before I was to have my 5th heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic. I have always defined myself as a cardiac patient. But breat cancer was pronounced before heart surgery. Never dreamed that lighting would strike twice. Tice, Melissa and Ade, thank you for inspring me. I watched this and recorded it before I knew that I had cancer. I am waiting to find out if I have to have chemo. My heart doc says that chemo trumps heart surgery. Just watched your video again and am so humbled by it. This is a truly important piece of work that has so much courage. I wish that I had that courage now. I don't. Thank you and maybe my courage will come back.
"This Woman's Work" isn't about cancer, its about having a baby. Though, sytycd made the dance to that. It was a moving dance though.
