Brittany Murphy died on December 20, 2009, leaving behind shocked and stunned fans across the nation. Her family released a statement exclusively to Us Weekly. It reads, "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time."
The Los Angeles County Chief Coroner Ed Winter also confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted. Speaking with Radar Online, Coroner Winter stated in a video interview, “We will be conducting an autopsy either tomorrow or Tuesday. The final results will be pending the toxicology.”
Those who followed Brittany Murphy's career will agree that the actress has lost a great deal of weight over the years. An autopsy will determine whether or not an eating disorder was a factor in her sudden death. Currently, her death has been listed as cardiac arrest, but this could change pending the autopsy and toxicology reports. TMZ reports that sources state there were numerous prescription medications found in Brittany's home at the time of her death.
MSNBC the Scoop quotes several unnamed sources who were concerned about Brittany's drastic weight loss.
