On March 7, 2010 the 82nd Annual Academy Awards announced the Oscar winners for performances in 2009. The Oscar for Best Picture went to The Hurt Locker. Nominees in this category included Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, Inglourious Basterds, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, A Serious Man, Up, and Up in the Air.

Kathryn Bigelow also won the Oscar for best director for The Hurt locker. She was up against James Cameron for Avatar, Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds, Lee Daniels for Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, and Jason Reitman for Up in the Air.

 

Sandra Bullock surprised everyone by winning best actress in a leading role. It was her first nomination and she won for The Blind Side. Other nominees for best actress include Helen Mirren for The Last Station, Carey Mulligan for An Education, Gaboruey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, and Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia.

Best Actor in a leading role went to Jeff Bridges for his performance in Crazy Heart. Other best actor nominees included George Clooney for Up in the Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, and Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker.

Mo’Nique won the 2010 Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire. Other nominees included Penelope Cruz for Nine, Vera Farmiga for Up in the Air, Maggie Gyllenhaal for Crazy Heart, and Anna Kendrick, for Up in the Air.

Christoph Waltz won the 2010 Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Inglourious Basterds. The other nominees in the category include Matt Damon for Invictus, Woody Harrelson for The Messenger, Christopher Plummer for The Last Station, and Stanley Tucci for The Lovely Bones.

The film Up won the Oscar for Best Animated Film. Other films nominated in this category include Coralline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog, and The Secret of Kells.
