On Friday, January 22, 2010, more than one hundred celebrities joined forces to raise money for Haiti earthquake survivors. The telethon aired live on numerous networks, including CNN and will be replayed throughout the weekend. It was said that it aired on over 100 networks.

Though there were many memorable, heartfelt vocals and performances, the benefit was not a musical concert meant for enjoyment. After each singer performed, there was an eerie hush where normally applause would sound. The focus was on Haiti and not on the celebrity performances. Many of the performers seemed more subdued, thoughtful, and clearly sang from their hearts and not for a performance. The show was broadcast from London, New York, Los Angeles, and Haiti.

While some celebrities sang, others manned the phones speaking to those giving their donations. Some of the celebrities who donated their time, talent, and energy include: George Clooney, Wycleff Jean, Mark Wahlberg, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Rock Tim Allen, Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, Madonna, Steven Spielberg, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, Selena Gomez, Shakira, Randy Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson, Fran Drescher, Ben Stiller, Reese Witherspoon, Chevy Chase, Toby Maguire, Drew Barrymore, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Degeneres, Russell Brand, Kevin Jonas, Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Aniston, Mel Gibson, Sigourney Weaver, Daniel Craig, Debra Messing, and many more.

Those who wish to donate can continue throughout the weekend. You may call 1-877-99-HAITI (1-877-99-2484). www.examiner.com/x-12837-US-Headlines-Examiner~y2010m1d22-Hope-for-Haiti-Now-telethon-aims-to-raise-funds-for-Haiti-earthquake-survivors-videos-photosYou may find other ways to donate here.
