Anthony Sowell was in court this morning, arraigned on charges stemming from the September 22, 2009 rape and attempted murder of a woman at his home at 12205 Imperial Ave in Cleveland, Ohio. It was this incident that led police to search Sowell’s home on October 29, 2009. In today’s court hearing, Anthony Sowell was arraigned with one count each of felonious assault, rape, and attempted murder.
Standing before Cuyahoga County Court Judge John P. O’Donell, Anthony Sowell was ordered to undergo an HIV test and his bond was increased an additional million dollars for a total of $6 million.
Authorities have found a total of 11 victims in what has become known as the ‘house of horrors’ and the FBI continues to search the home next to Sowell’s. Ten of the eleven victims have been identified.
As the search continues, many are left wondering why it took so long for Sowell to be brought to justice, considering that he was a registered sex offender and had been arrested and released in 2008.
Anthony Sowell plead not guilty to the counts of rape, assault, and attempted murder. He faces five additional charges of aggravated murder and more charges are likely to follow.
