New research indicates that only one low dose of the H1N1 vaccine may be sufficient to protect adults from the virus.
Australian researchers found that a single 15 milligram dose of the vaccine is enough to induce a hearty immune response in healthy adults.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH said “The NIH-sponsored clinical trial corroborates and confirms the exciting data by the Australians published in the New England Journal of Medicine.”
This finding is significant, as it means that many more people can be immunized more rapidly to prevent the spread of H1N1, also known as the swine flu.
According to Fauci, details regarding the NIH study are due to be released on Friday.
