President Obama delivered his first State of the Union Address 2010 on January 27, 2010. He spoke of the stimulus plan repeatedly, referring to it as the “Recovery Plan.” He credited the stimulus or recovery plan with saving jobs and also stated that his administration passed 25 different tax cuts and didn’t raise taxes on one citizen in his first year as President.
“Now, let me repeat: We cut taxes. We cut taxes for 95 percent of working families. We cut taxes for small businesses. We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers. We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children. We cut taxes for 8 million Americans paying for college. As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on gas and food and other necessities, all of which helped businesses keep more workers. And we haven't raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person, not a single dime. Now, because of the steps we took, there are about 2 million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed.”
It was evident that President Obama was crediting the Recovery Plan with saving 2 million U.S. jobs. It’s important to realize that there is a difference between creating new jobs, and saving jobs that were made possible through the Recovery Act. It is unclear exactly all of the jobs that were saved, but many included police officers, firefighters, and first responders.
Two hundred thousand work in construction and clean energy. Three hundred thousand are teachers and other education workers. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, first responders. And we're on track to add another 1.5 million jobs to this total by the end of the year. The plan that has made all of this possible, from the tax cuts to the jobs, is the Recovery Act.

Sounds like a plan, don't fail me now, you bipartisan government you!
Same stuff different messenger....what we need is democracy...is the american public really so slow that they don't realize this is oligarchy at it's finest with the best smoke screen of democracy since the middle ages? We're all going to suffer unless your household annual income is in excess of 5 million dollars...didn't you all pay attention when mccain said 5 million or under in this economy IS middle class...because there is not a single politician in this country worth less than 5 million....capt john gotta save his own hide....don't be so closed minded we are being enslaved all over again only your skin color, nationality or ethnic background matters not....it's the fact that you park you family on this nations soil....your a slave by default...welcome to reality....
terrible video player, change it
Mr Middle Class .
Slaved by the country that offers us a sanctuary, countless social benefits as well as more civil freedoms than most countries? we are not near perfect but politics at its heart is the allocation of goods to the people. i agree its Same stuff different messenger, but we as a representative democracy vote for the leaders we hope can best lead us to a fair just world. you have a very pessimistic view on the united states. if anything capitalism is what enslaves us.
goood.

Whaooooo.
America is going to be #1.
Yeah, he's a great public speaker. I think he underestimates the overall laziness and apathy of people. If the majority of people cared we would already have real employment law, affordable schools, and good health care. Maybe we can move forward anyway. Overall I think the way I felt when I listened to this speech was best said by Rise Against in the song State of the Union.
In closing I'll say this. When I watched this broadcast I watched a bunch of corrupt rich jerks who haven't been doing their jobs clap a lot for a bunch of other corrupt rich jerks that also haven't. By doing this they tried to convince us that they will actually do their jobs this year to make up for all of the work they haven't done in the past. I have an idea, how about all, but newly elected congressmen don't accept pay this year? This was mostly an exercise in how not to really say anything for over an hour. Our government is broken period. Best of luck anyway Mr. President. Your heart is in the right place
he reads little childrens letters before bed each night. i gotta chuckle outta that. really trying to play on our sympathies. tell us what we want to hear. oh thank you mr. obama. i love being lied to. he's hopeful of americas future. really? we'll see come november. we'll see how the people vote. transparency? don't get me started. clapclapclapclapclap. he's smooth alright.
The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new
virulent strain of mentally Transmitted Disease. The disease is
contracted through dangerous and high-risk behavior. The disease is
called Gonorrhea Lectim. And pronounced "gonna re-elect them."
Many victims contracted it in 2008, after having been screwed for the
past two years... Naturalists and epidemiologists are amazed at how
destructive this disease has become since it is easily cured -- by voting
out all incumbents!
i think you should bring back people from war. and this video would need to go faster if people want to watch this video instead of it pausing every 5 minutes.
I am interested in actually seeing if he intends to follow through with these promises or if he's just another lying, unworthy leader that was elected through a lose-lose situation. I am middle class... so what? I don't have to be rich to be happy, but I would like it if everything I did in life for myself and for my family wasn't taken advantage of by cut-throat and blood-thirsty companies that have free reigns on charging every penny I have for the needs of myself and loved ones. If he can lower the costs of all that he claims, it would help us immencely. You all can claim slavery, devilry, and corruption... but before I start stomping my feet and crying... I want to see if this guy is for real. At least he appears to be a well speaking, educated and kinda hearted man, prior to the jack-ass we had before. Lets just see how this year goes...
Oh... and the video played fine on my computer... *shrugs* Sorry for those having a hard time.
I have to say that all of his great ideas mean nothing unless they are implemented. I heard mention of green tech. as a way to improve the economy, however I heard nothing about urban renewal as a way to slow urban sprall and protect existing fosert, prairies and wetlands. However I did hear about off shore drilling and have to ask why when even the Saudies are investing in alternitive energy and greater fuel efficency as seen in a report on 60min. If a country that derives most of there income from oil is doing this then why are we not doing the same?
The problem I see is..."TOO MANY CHIEFS"...Things don't get done when there are too many people with their own agendas working on the same project. Everyone wants to have their little piece implanted. In some respects that is fine, but in this case, with our country on the line, we just can't afford it. I have a different opinion of George W. now, he was just a fall guy...its the selfish idiots in congress, on both sides (democrats and republicans), that messed up our country for their own personal gains. W was just the perfect patsy to pawn the blame on. Now the same people want to try to make our current President look inept. We should re-examine some of the people we put in public office to represent us, cause if I were the BOSS, and today was firing day...there would be a lot more jobs lost and made available to people of moral character, rather than political prowess.
Amen to D'Ron's statement. The other problem is that we now have an "economic nobility class". Some of these people probably do mean well, but they are so disconnected from average Americans that they really don't understand what we go through beyond the concept as an academic exercise. The problem is that we've made public office so expensive to run for, and allowed lobbyists to leverage so much control (see the recent supreme court ruling allowing them to now spend as much as they want to push their agendas) that without tons of money an candidate can't hope to get elected functionally. Sure we could all write in who we want, etc. but it all comes down to the people in the end. We need to stop voting for people that we don't totally believe in, regardless of what party they're in. Both parties are equally corrupt, yet decent people exist in both parties.... It sounds like we need a 3rd solution to me.
Can you tell the joker we want to see the long form NOW!
