President Obama declares State of Emergency in North Carolina in preparation for Hurricane Earl
President Obama declared a state of emergency in North Carolina in preparation for Hurricane Earl. Hurricane Earl is a category 4 storm packing wind speeds of 145 miles per hour. Traveling at a rate of 18 mph, Earl is expected to make landfall sometime today. As President Obama issued a state of emergency, North Carolina residents and tourists are preparing for the worst. Evacuations are underway and hurricane warnings and watches are in effect for much of North Carolina’s coast.
An area stretching from the Bogue Inlet northeastward to the North Carolina/Virginia border are under a hurricane warning. From the North Carolina/Virginia border to Cape Henlopen Delaware is under a hurricane watch. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the region including Cape Fear to west of Bogue Inlet in North Carolina, as well as from the North Carolina/Virginia border to Sandy Hook New Jersey.
The area from Hull Massachusetts to Eastport Maine is under a tropical storm watch.
As of 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010 Hurricane earl was located approximately 300 miles south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and 765 miles south southwest of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
