An Iranian woman was shot and the horrific, final moments of her death were caught on a cell phone camera. The video of Neda Soltani has spread life fire across the Internet. Almost as fast as the twitter posts that breaches a gap between the Iranian people and the hope of a free world. President Obama held a press conference today, addressing concerns that he isn’t doing enough to help the Iranians reach democratic freedom. While speaking, he mentioned the video of Neda Soltani.
President Obama stated,
The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged by the threats, the beatings and imprisonments of the last few days," the president said at the top of his press conference. "I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost.
and later in the press conference, President Obama said,
I'm not hinting. I think that when a young woman gets shot on the street when she gets out of her car, that's a problem.
However, though President Obama condemned the murder, he didn’t quite state what he would do about the situation, rather than letting the Iranaian people work out their own internal political struggles.
Warning: The Neda Soltani video is extremely graphic. It is unedited and should only be viewed by adults who can emotionally handle the footage.
