President Obama announced today that he was enlisting the services of former presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush in Haiti recovery efforts. The union has now formed the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund with the purpose of raising funds for Haiti relief. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti, and the tragedy is severe.

There may never be an accurate count of the loss of life attributed to the Haiti earthquake, and due to the lapse of government; records are not being well kept on those who perished. As the race against time wages on, efforts are being made to reach those who are still trapped under the rubble and clinging to life, as well as find the best methods to bring much needed aid to survivors. The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund states that they are partnering to help the Haitian people reclaim their country and rebuild their lives.
According to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund the immediate needs are basics: food, water, shelter, and first-aid supplies. Though many across the world would like to donate supplies, the organization states that it is better to donate money. The funds can then be distributed in the method most appropriate to meet the critical need at the appointed time.

7.0 Haiti earthquake leaves country in ruins
In addition to providing and meeting immediate needs, the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund will also serve as a resource for long term support for those who have survived the massive earthquake.
This isn’t the first time that former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have joined forces to aid in recovery efforts following a catastrophe. After the 2004 tsunami, former president Bush enlisted the services of his father George Bush and Bill Clinton.
The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund website states that the organization has been created to “…identify and fulfill unmet needs in the region, foster economic opportunity, improve the quality of life of those affected over the long term, and assist the people of Haiti as they rebuild their lives and country.”
