Plus Size model Lizzi Miller poses nude for Glamour, but is she fat enough? Photos and slideshow

Plus size model nude, Lizzi Miller, causes controversy and draws praise

A plus size model has posed nude for Glamour magazine, and has caused a stir. Not only has she drawn attention for being nude, but in her nakedness, she reveals a pooch, often seen with women who have had children. Though the model, Lizzi Miller, has not had children, she is a size 12 to 14, the size that in America is considered to be the size of the average woman. Her photo is gaining a lot of attention as well as mixed reactions. In addition to the pooch, you can clearly tell that Lizzi has more meat on her bones than the typical model, as well as clearly defined in the crease of her knee when she crosses her legs. Yes, it’s plain to see. Lizzi Miller, unlike many other models, actually eats.

The photo of Lizzi Miller is brave to say the least. But what might be more surprising than a photo of a woman with her belly hanging out instead of sucked in through either abdominoplasty or the lack of oxygen while the picture is being shot, is the outrage that Lizzi Miller might not be ‘fat’ enough to be considered plus size. Well, to make things perfectly clear, Lizzi Miller is a plus size. She stands 5’11 and weighs 180 pounds, putting her between a size 12 and size 14. The Glamour shoot is about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and it is clearly obvious by the radiant smile on Lizzi’s face that she is comfortable with the way she looks. But is the public comfortable seeing images of real women? Is society ready to see photos of women who haven’t been starved, surgically altered, and then photoshopped? Some women feel that a true plus size is someone who is a size 22 and higher.

Whether you think Lizzi is plus size or needs to gain more weight, there is no denying that this was an incredibly bold move for Glamour magazine. It’s also important for the fashion industry to realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it is also determined by the images set before the eyes. The women depicted in art of the Renaissance were voluptuous and often had cellulite dimples painted by the artists. These women had full breasts, rounded stomachs, and heavy thighs. Yet, due to the culture, these women were considered beautiful.

Glamour magazine isn’t the only medium in pop culture showcasing the beauty and reality of plus sized, nude women: Leonard Nimoy photographs them. Yes, Leonard Nimoy, Spock himself has an affinity for photographing nude, plump women. To see Nimoy’s work one would quickly recognize that his subjects are truly plus size and no argument is necessary. The comparison between Lizzi Miller’s photo and those of Leonard Nimoy’s does give credence to the claim that Lizzi is much smaller than the typical ‘plus’ size woman. However, realizing that fashion magazines feature women who wear clothing running between size 0 and size 2, one can quickly appreciate Glamour magazine’s bravery.

Since when is a size 12 "plus sized"?? Are you kidding me?? Especially for someone 5'11". Charisse...you wanna see a real plus size model? Go to Torrid's site. Those girls truly ARE plus sized. While I definitely agree Lizzi's photo shoot took lots of balls, I don't think it was as much on the magazine's part as hers. Thank you, Lizzi, for being comfortable in your skin!!! :) :) :) I'd rather look at someone like myself instead of a bag of bones, and if we, as a country, would start to be more realistic, less people, like me, would have eating disorders due to the unrealistic expectations the American male is given by the media.

According to Mirriam-Webster, the noun form of "pooch" means "dog". I think you mean "paunch".

Glad to see a plus size model that I can relate to. After having four daughters I am anything but a size 9 even. Cheers to this model for being comfortable with her body. To all you heavier moms out there just be happy with your body and enjoy life.

She is "Plus"-size?? Oh give me a break. What I don't understand though is how is a 20 year old girl's stomach this flabby? I'm not being mean but I'm in my 50's and have had two children and my stomach isn't flabby. The article mentions not having had lipo, etc. Well a girl her age shouldn't have to have anything done. I could understand some extra pounds, but why the heck is it so loose? Did she lose a large amount of weight or something?

Sugardaisy, how rude are you to call her flabby just because her body is different than yours and it "shouldn't be". That kind of attitude is exactly the problem. Different women have different genetics and different lives.

Many runway models don't diet, they're women who are naturally gifted with extremely high metabolisms - so if they can be 5'10'' and size 2, even after having children, shouldn't you be the same?

"Is she fat enough?" Does it really matter how fat she is (or isn't, for that matter), have we done away with the idea of a middle ground entirely? It is bizarre that anyone would ask the question; it sets up the idea that if you aren't thin you should be morbidly obese, or you don't fit into some generalized idea of how women look.

She is what she is, and while that may be uncomfortable for those who see the world in terms of only very thin or very fat, the fact is that most of us fall somewhere in the middle.

I would add that only in the fashion industry is a size 12 considered a plus size, it is a bit below the average size, particularly at nearly six feet tall, which is far above the average height.

The model in this picture has what we call a pear-shaped figure. She is good from the waist up, but her biggest problem appears to be a heavy bottom and heavy legs. Most women with the pear shape have a long waist, which is nice, as opposed to the apple shape (me, unfortunately) which is short waisted and the fat tends to pile up around the middle and top of the hips. She is a nice looking woman I think.

Sugardaisy, you say you're "not being mean," but you sure as hell are being shallow. At your age, which by the way is the same as mine, you should have more class than that by now. Lizzi is beautiful because she is real. And to PlayBoy Subscriber, all I can say is I hope you are enjoying those hand-jobs while looking at the centerfolds. You are too much of an ass to have a real woman.

I am so happy to finally see a picture like this of what a real woman actually looks like. There are too many women and young girls out there that are so unhealthy because they are afraid they are going to get fat. And all for what, the attention of a man. I am 31 and have an 11 yr old daughter who has already having body image issues. Society, mainly shallow men have caused such grief for us as women to be slim and slender. Well to all of you out there that think thatonly thin women are beautiful, grow up. Being bigger than a size 5 or whatever does not make you any less beautiful than anyone else. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

I am sorry but how can you say this is healthy in comparison to skinny models? They are just exchanging one extreme for another. I fail to see why they can not use healthy models a.k.a. Not underweight and not overweight. I hate that society is trying to normailse obesity. A size 12 is a healthy size for women 6 foot and up but for the average size woman it is a major concern. So all you out there who are worried about about your daughters developing eating disorders, maybe you should worry about them having heart attacks by the age of 30 as well. Try teaching them to eat a vegetable rich diet and to put down the crisps and ice-cream so they can excercise instead. Just remember over eating is an eating disorder as well.

Bravo to this brilliant model. I commend her in celebrating what God gave her. The ability to be herself and show people it is absolutely good to be in the skin your in and if you want to change it, there's exercise, weight loss programs and of course surgery. You have given me a new found love of my body. Having 2 children my body never bounced back. The art of carrying a child, stretch marks, giving birth, being a professional, a spouse, a caregiver and so much more. I am overjoyed by this picture and always wanted to celebrate my body and lean to love the entire me...and its ok..

For those who think this girl is unhealthy beacuse she is not skin and bones, why don't you do a little research and grow up. Obesity does not mean carrying around a little extra weight. For a person to be obese BMI has to be above 30. A lot of times you can't look at a person and tell whether they are healthy. There are actually numbers and other variables involved including BMI, Body fat%, Activity Level, VO2 max.

To all the people calling her a "real woman"... just because she doesn't do any exercising doesn't make her real. She could be completely fake and have an awful personality.

I'm sorry, but this woman is NOT plus size. She just has a little extra flab...which is really quite odd. Even when you are "fat" it doesn't look like that. Apparently, the only thing making her "plus size" according to the dumbass media is because she has this unnatural flab of skin. Don't get me wrong, I think she's absolutely beautiful and the "flab" doesn't take away from her beauty. But there is definitely more of a story here...I would imagine it is from extreme weighloss if she didn't have any children.

She may not be fat but she'd definitely benefit from more exercise.. If you want to be respected modeling yourself for anything you should respect yourself 100% and a quick look at this lady's upper arms, legs, and unnatural looking little pouch she's got there shows she could definitely be a better model (without starving herself). It's not so much about being thin or fat as so many insecure people jumped on here to argue about, it's really healthy vs. everything else.

this girl needs to lay off the snacks.. she looks gross, not plus-size or model worthy at any weight - and she hasn't even had children! her parts are out of proportion and she looks like she never gets off the couch. there are beautiful, healthy plus size women but she just looks flabby and lazy

if you zoom in you can see the cheetos powder on her fingertips from breakfast

As an artist I have long ago found beauty where ever I look. If one attempts to typify beauty one soon finds a dearth of available subject matter for ones work. "Fashion" is a fleeting thing people, it will continue to cycle. Enjou it as one enjoys the phases of the moon. ?? sliver=skinny / full=fat ?? :>)

Size 12-14 is a plus size? Well, I'll be damned. I'm a size 12 and I can normally get away with a medium-sized T-shirt, but I guess that's still too fat by today's standards.
