Plus size Lane Bryant lingerie ad banned by Fox and ABC, is it too racy? (videos, poll)
Lane Bryant released a sexy new lingerie ad that features a voluptuous plus size model in bra and panties as she gets ready for a date. The commercial advertises Lane Bryant’s line of lingerie: Cacique, only Fox and ABC chose not to air the commercial. Now Lane Bryant is citing discrimination against full figured models and a controversy has ensued. Is the ad too racy?
Though the ad is sexy, it is similar to Victoria Secret ads that air regularly on television except for one noticeable difference: size! Lane Bryant uses a beautiful plus sized model, Ashley Graham, whose bust is noticeably larger than those depicted in Victoria Secret and other lingerie ads. Is this what caused Fox and ABC to ban the commercials?
Ashley Graham spoke about ABC’s decision not to air the commercial during Dancing with the Stars. She said, “It’s a bit prejudiced. The Victoria's Secret girls can flaunt around their panties all day long. But when there's a bigger woman with a little bit extra, they snipped it out immediately.” She also said that she was told that the commercial had ‘too much skin.’ You may watch Ashley Graham comment on the commercial in the video player below.
Lane Bryant is upset about the ban and posted about it on their official Lane Bryant blog ‘Inside Curve.”
“ABC and Fox have made the decision to define beauty for you by denying our new, groundbreaking Cacique commercial from airing freely on their networks,” the statement continues. “Yes, these are the same networks that have scantily-clad housewives so desperate they seduce every man on the block — and don't forget Bart Simpson, who has shown us the moon more often than NASA — all in what they call 'family hour.'”

I think these guys are rediculous. They can have thin women in lingerie on tv, but a plus size woman (who is very pretty) they refuse? They have worse commercials on tv with women showing more or couples all over each other and this L.B. ad they ban! These "people" should get thier heads out of their you know where and realize that there is nothing wrong with this commercial. Plus Size Women Are Beautiful Too!!!
I am absolutely dumbfounded by this. I watched the ad thinking I was going to be shocked by what I saw. I actually had to watch it twice because I thought I missed something...what is the BIG deal? She's just a woman in her bra and panties - and not even racy bra & panties!
Maybe the big deal is that the executives at Fox and ABC don't want their stick thin anorexic wives to know that they find this ad turns them on!
Beautiful, sexy and tasteful. ABC and FOX, your hypocrisy is showing because I've watched both stations and seen the most tasteless shows ... hello, DWTS?? ... and it's clear that the only reason for banning this ad is the fact that it's a plus-sized girl instead of the more acceptable slim choice. Well,guess what? You lose, because she is sexier than many of the women on the shows YOU promote and there is not one thing wrong in the ad. I think it's time to review my channel choices.
Ashley Graham is one smokin' hot woman! I dislike those ultra skinny bony women. This model is realistic to what most women in America look like. There was nothing risque` or too racy.

She should take being banned as a statement saying she is too hot for T.V. But I guess I can see why they censored it. I mean up till now we have only seen V.S. ads featuring 12 yr old boys in women's intimate appeal. The sight of a real woman might actual stimulate American men.

This commercial is nothing compared with some of the Calvin Klein or Channel 5 pitches. As long as one is bone thin,I suppose it's okay to parade around in panties or bikinis. A woman with curves better cover up!! What a message to send to our young women in helping them with body image. Jeez.
I showed this to my husband after reading the story and viewing the video with interest. His comment, "Ridiculous." Victoria's Secret ads have more "attitude" in a suggestive, flaunty way, while Lane Bryant's ads are more realistic and depict the body motion that a natural woman in the real world would exhibit. And, I'll bet that the Victoria's Secret models are largely implanted with artificial breasts, whereas the larger models are au naturel!
So the plus sized model has made the ad too Sexy? Hmm. Put some skinny A-cup size model in the same commercial and Im sure it would be just fine. What hypocrites. Not to mention all the shows they promote that push the envelope of behavior and appearance just for ratings. Whats one commercial among all their other dirty laundry. lol Go Lane Bryant!

My husband thinks those victoria secret models don't have anything on this beautiful, sexy "more to love" girl in the video. I think fox should be ashamed of this decision not to air this comercial. They must be blind, or jealous...as I can't see any other reason for their discrimination. As a plus size woman, I am angered, and offended...and until it's solved in ashleys favor, fox will lose many viewers... especially mine. Fox, get your head out of your skinny little bottoms, and join the real world. SHAME ON YOU!

I personally find this ad offensive, not because she is an extremely attractive plus size woman, but because she is clearly leaving her house to get "rocked" and not for an actual date. I think the overt reference to sex is what is offensive.
It's a shame the 2 networks ban an ad featuring a woman that looks like the majority of women we see everyday in real life. Victoria's Secret has a whole show featuring more skin than that! Kids in America see more than this on our beaches (family gathering spots) and by the way, the reality dancing shows, survivor, etc. show as much. In my opinion, banning an ad featuring a full figured woman is sending a disturbing message to youg girls; if you're not skinny be ashamed!

L.B's girls are smoking hot. I don't watch FIXed TV but it looks like my viewing chooses just got smaller. I am adding ABC to the blocked channels on my TV. Perhaps we voluptuous women should take this as a compliment. It seems that network execs recognized that this commercial is sexier than VS commericials because a curvaceous woman is sexier than a stick-figure!

The women is beautiful...I can't see how this is any worse than the shows with blood & guts all over the screen. This is the wrong signal to send the young girls who think "THIN" is the only way to go.

Please, of course, it would be banned. Too much sexual competition. Anytime a woman of substantial sexiness, particularly with large beautiful breasts, appears on the scene, you can't take your eyes off her, regardless of who she's standing next to. It's funny how with this age of open pornography in all it's blaring form, the powers that be still can't reconcile the public's feelings about large breasts, notwithstanding that millions of women alter their breasts to get bigger NOT smaller, only to be told that it's too much for us to view and they need to censor our sensibilities. That should tell you how the media dictates what society should accept and when they should accept it. Nevertheless, the public will not be fooled. Because there is nothing more lovely than beautiful, "natural," luscious looking large breasts. And, no amount of censorship is going to change that. Tah, Tah!
Wow - She's gorgeous. I have seen way more racy commercials than this and not just lingerie. Like any commercial that is selling undergarments doesn't "show" some skin! Not mentioning any brands here - but what about the one that refers to the "girls" and "muffin tops" and need I go further. Same thing! Fox and ABC - Shame on you. Very self righteous and maybe you should think about stopping all the steamy scenes in most of your daytime shows and prime time shows as well. Lane Bryant - Stay the course. This was a beautifully done ad and should be shown.

I cannot believe Victoria Secret is allowed to show girls with their hands over their boobs (no bra) and flaunt around like this on tv in just underwear...and here, Lane Bryant shows conservatively, a WOMAN in beautiful bra and panty set and its not allowed?? I loved the commercial. I thought it was done very tastefully and the model is a beautiful full figured woman who did a great job. I shop at Lane Bryant regularly and support them 100 percent. These networks need to look at the other commercials they run ads for like playtex bras, hanes, fruit of the loom undergarments and even some perfume brands. They all show the same thing....skin and underwear. Why is this commercial such a problem? It's just sad and ignorant!!!!!!
I think FOX and ABC should look at reality. The ad is not bad, look at victoria secret ads they show more skin then our real women are in the Lane Bryant. Besides ABC showed an actor naked in the shower several years ago.
...Furthermore, Victoria Secret does not even make bras for the "full-figured" women. If they did, I am POSITIVE we'd see this same commercial and it would be ok'd. SMH in Total Disgust for ignorance!

Personally, it's hard on families for ANY of these commercials to be on TV. I think it would be great if we'd all take a step back and think about preserving our childrens' childhood far longer than we do. We wouldn't allow a woman to prance through our living rooms in front of our families dressed only in her lingerie, so I'm not sure I understand why television makes it any different. Beyond that, I am a full-figured woman and I get very frustrated at the double standard. FOX is wrong.
I love watching Fox, but they have this wrong!!! I love it! FINALLY a real woman!!!! She is so Beautiful and real!!!!! (No plastic flotation devices in this ad.) I feel it was tastefully done.
