Pentagon shooter John Patrick Bedell was calm and well armed (videos)

Pentagon shooter John Patrick Bedell was calm and well armed (video)

Pentagon Police Chief Richard Keevil stated during a press conference on March 5, 2010 that a lone individual approached the Pentagon metro prescreen area and exchanged gunfire with two Pentagon Police officers. The suspect has been identified as John Patrick Bedell. Officer Keevil announced that John Patrick Bedell was shot in the head and later died from his injuries. The two officers suffered minor injuries and are expected to make full recoveries. They are currently on administrative leave as an investigation ensues and they recover from their injuries.

The suspect, John Patrick Bedell was caught on surveillance video and according to Chief Keevil, verifies that Bedell was the sole gunman and acted alone. He described the suspect as being well dressed and wearing a suit. Describing the suspect, Chief Keevil said that John Bedell was calm and well armed as he was in possession of two 9 millimeter semiautomatic weapons and had an additional stash of magazines.

Chief Keevil said, “At this time, and I emphasize at this time, there doesn't appear to be anyone else acting in concert with Mr. Bedell. He came here from California. We were able to identify certain locations that he spent the last several weeks making his way from the West Coast to the East Coast. But a lot of this is still preliminary.

One of the questions that came up last night was how did he get here. We were able to determine that he drove here. He parked his vehicle in a local parking garage, and we have located that vehicle. It has been impounded. It will be processed as another piece of evidence.”

Chief Keevil also explained that there were three police officers involved in the exchange of gunfire, but only the two were wounded.

The shooting is under investigation and the Pentagon metro station is an active crime scene. Authorities are looking at Internet postings made by Bedell as possible motive in the crime. Bedell had posted rants where he spoke of conspiracy theories. You may hear those rants in the video player below.  Full press conferences held by Chief Keevil are below as well.

The way San Benito County covered up the perchlorate and TCE exposures in Hollister might have helped set this guy off.
