Orlando shooting case: Suspected gunman Jason Rodriguez angry with former employer (video)

The man suspected of committing a mass shooting on Friday morning in downtown Orlando, Fla. was deep in debt and angry at his former employer—the engineering firm where he opened fire.

Jason Rodriguez, 40, was fired from the firm of Reynolds, Smith and Hills about 2 ½ years ago for poor performance, according to Ken Jacobson, the company’s general legal counsel and CEO.

As he entered the police station handcuffed, Rodriguez told reporters “Because they left me to rot,” as the reason behind his alleged actions.

Jacobson was unclear as to why Rodriguez would say the firm had left him “to rot,” saying “This is really a mystery to us.”

Breitbart reports that Rodriguez was deep in debt and had been working at a Subway sandwich shop until about six weeks ago.

Rodriguez and his wife divorced several years ago, and his ex-wife’s mother, America Holloway, told the Associated Press he was an abusive husband.

Holloway said last week Rodriguez’s son asked him why he hadn’t visited for some time, to which Rodriguez replied “Because I don’t have any money. I don’t have a job. I don’t have anything to eat. When things get better, I’ll come see you.”

Each of Rodriguez’s victims in Friday’s shooting worked for his former employer, the engineering firm. One person died and five others were wounded and are now in stable condition.
