President Obama’s terror watch list has hundreds more names added. After a holiday vacation in Hawaii, President Obama has returned to Washington and has been meeting with security officials regarding the attempted terrorist attack on Flight 253 that took place on Christmas day. Monday, June 4, 2010, marked President Obama’s first day back in Washington and he was briefed by the CIA regarding the terrorist attempted attack.

Due to Flight 253, it has become increasingly more difficult for citizens to board planes; some might find that they are being prevented from flying entirely due to new additions to the terror watch list. The list, focused greatly upon certain countries that have terrorist connections. New regulations at airports include full body scans, pat downs, searches of carryon bags, and explosive detection swabs.

There are fourteen countries that have been listed as supporters of terrorism. They are as follows:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Anyone attempting to board a plane and enter the United States from one of these fourteen countries will find that it is extremely difficult. Not everyone agrees with the strategy, however. Some experts state that this amounts to profiling and can result in more terrorist attempts from countries that aren’t included on the list.

The Council on American Islamic Relations calls the new TSA regulations religious profiling. Nihad Awad, the Executive Director of CIAR stated,

Under these new guidelines, almost every American Muslim who travels to see family or friends or goes on pilgrimage to Mecca will automatically be singled out for special security checks -- that's profiling. While singling out travelers based on religion and national origin may make some people feel safer, it only serves to alienate and stigmatize Muslims and does nothing to improve airline security.

The TSA, however, says that the in addition to the 14 countries listed, the majority of people attempting to enter the United States will be required to undergo additional screening.

Nice article Charisse, let's hope this issue of airline scanners can be resolved one way or another. Did you know there has now been outrage against them as some say they will increase child pornography, perish the thought. I wrote about it here: www.examiner.com/examiner/x-29076-SF-World-Travel-Examiner~y2010m1d5-Travelers-learn-naked-airport-security-scanners-in-child-porn-uproar#

Nihad Awad is an idiot. How many terrorist attacks have been by Muslims? No sh*t we will profile them. If Muslims have an issue w/ this, they should take action against the "bad seeds" instead of complaining about alleged profiling. More actions against terrorists, CAIR and less whining.

Here is some easy math...match the countries on the terror watch to the following:
    Bangladesh -- Muslim 83%
    Egypt -- Muslim 90%
    Gaza -- Muslim 98.7%
    Indonesia -- Muslim 86.1%
    Iran -- Muslim 98%
    Iraq -- Muslim 97%
    Jordan -- Muslim 92%
    Morocco -- Muslim 98.7%
    Pakistan -- Muslim 97%
    Palestine -- Muslim 99%
    Syria -- Muslim 90%
    Tajikistan -- Muslim 90%
    Turkey -- Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates -- Muslim 96%
    Afghanistan -- Muslim 100%
    Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
    Somalia -- Muslim 100%
    Yemen -- Muslim 99.9%
    ====
Of course you would claim profiling. You are angry that the U.S. is actually doing something to stop terrorism. CAIR is a joke.
