Johnny Depp declared the sexiest man alive

Johnny Depp has been declared the sexiest man alive by People magazine. This is the second year that Johnny Depp has scored the top win as he was previously named the sexiest in 2003. He joins fellow actors Brad Pitt and George Clooney who also won the award twice.

Born John Christopher Depp II in Owensboro, Kentucky he is one of four children. He owes his good looks to his German, Cherokee, and Irish heritage but it is the French ancestry with which he exudes his charming character. Descended from a French Hugenot, Pierre Dieppe (some biographies list the spelling as Deppe), his ancestor settled in Virginia during the early 1700’s, biographers state.

Johnny Depp, himself, grew up in Miramar, Florida and has been in a long time relationship with French model and actress Vanessa Paradis. Not straying far from his French heritage, the couple is reported to spend their time between Los Angeles, California and Le Plan-de-la-Tour, France.

Johnny Depp and his partner, Vanessa Paradis, are the proud parents of two children. They have a daughter, Lily-Rose Melody Depp who was born on May 27, 1999 and a son, John Christopher Depp III who was born on April 9, 2002.

Though many associate Johnny Depp with his infamous character Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of Caribbean franchise, die-hard fans first fell in love with him in 1987 as he played the role of Officer Tom Hanson. The show ran from 1987-1990 and quickly set Johnny Depp leaping from obscurity into the hearts of teenage girls nationwide. Johnny Depp is reported as saying that he didn’t crave the teen icon status and set off to find different work, and only would accept jobs that felt right for him.

His next role was in the 1984 horror classic, A Nightmare on Elm Street. He followed with a role in Oliver Stone’s Platoon, but it wasn’t until Johnny Depp would be selected for a starring role in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands that Johnny Depp would find the breakthrough appeal and status to set him as a household name.

His relationship with Tim Burton is long standing and Johnny Depp frequently appears in movies starring Tim Burton’s partner, Helena Bonham Carter. They have a strong friendship and Johnny Depp is godfather to Tim Burton’s son.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have collaborated together on seven films. They are Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and the soon to be released Alice in Wonderland.

Johnny Depp wrote an introduction for Burton on Burton in which he describes his good friend. He stated, “What more can I say about him? He is a brother, a friend, my godson's father. He is a unique and brave soul, someone that I would go to the ends of the earth for, and I know, full and well, he would do the same for me."
