If Tiger Woods were Charlie Sheen he’d still have a job (commentary)
Tiger Woods didn’t commit a crime, Charlie Sheen did. Tiger Woods cheated on his wife, Charlie Sheen allegedly threatened to kill his. Tiger Woods was never accused of domestic violence or beating Elin Nordegren Woods, Charlie Sheen has been convicted of domestic violence and is reported to have beat his former girlfriend until she was unconscious, and shot Kelly Preston (now married to John Travolta) in the arm, while they were dating.
So why is Tiger Woods out of a job and embroiled in a seemingly greater scandal than Charlie Sheen?
Because Tiger Woods lied to the public and Charlie Sheen didn’t.
Tiger Woods’ goody-two-shoes, All American boy image was his golden ticket to success. Well, that and the fact that he was a child prodigy when it comes to golf. Seriously, though, if Tiger Woods had been a boozer, a druggie, getting into fist fights left and right and continually in the public spotlight by means of his mug shot, we’d know what to expect. Most likely, his ‘character flaws’ would be forgiven once he took to the golf course.
Unless, of course, he committed a crime so heinous or immoral that he broke the rules of PGA golf and was banned from the sport. Charlie Sheen, however, has continued about his business, and has so since his first domestic violence conviction. You see, in the court of public opinion it seems that the only thing worse than an attempted murderer is someone who presents one image to the public while revealing their true identity to porn stars, VIP hostesses, and waitresses. Or as we know, adultery is always the greater of the two evils when compared to domestic battery: not!
Charlie Sheen never pretended to be a ‘goody two-shoes.’ He didn’t have children across the country look up to him as a role model, and he never started a foundation, donated millions to charity, or showed that he was wholesome as Apple Pie- American bundled up in the Estevez package. Charlie Sheen has problems, major problems, and we all knew it. Well, those who read the papers, and because we knew who he was, we took him for what he was, and still do. (Many times I’ve wondered if the actor wasn’t a little ‘buzzed’ while filming on his hit show).
Charlie is in a world of trouble, but he’s still working, still carrying on, and many in the nation can’t wait to catch the next episode of Two and a Half Men. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, who hasn’t broken any legal laws, (oh wait, he did, he was required to pay a $164.00 traffic ticket for his legal transgressions) is out of work, in hiding, can’t show his face to the public, and has a photo bounty on his head for approximately $300,000 (though the price may be increasing).
Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture?

So true!!!!
Tiger still has a job.... but, allegedly is a good word to use.
You forgot one important thing - Tiger is black and Charlie is white :)
The only reason that Charlie didn't hide his behavior was because he couldn't. I agree with you. Tiger may have made some drastic mistakes, and I don't like that, but he shouldn't be out of work because of it. He may not have sponsors who don't like his tainted image but I think Charlie's behavior is a helluva lot worse. Battery and domestic violence is much worse.
Two and a half men is obscene, although funny and I wonder how many young people are effected by it in a negative way? Great article.
Very good points made ....
Instead of being punished for cheating on his wife he get rewarded by being put on the front page of Vanti Fair... What a world we live in...
Tiger Woods DOES have a job.
One thing you did not touch on in this article is the issue of race. I wonder what your thoughts are on that. Do you think the fact that Tiger is bi-racial has anything to do with the differences you describe here?
Is this not an opinion piece to grab an audience?
It's commentary and it's labeled as such!
I think that being family oriented as a public person is important as far as the values and ethics after making a grave commitment, is important, but I also see the thin line between it when it comes to the overall reality of something that was instilled in a person at birth or youth and all of the hard training, which they went through in order to become what they are today through the immediate family and not a marriage that is propped within the eyes of the public's to me of racist pool of people whom really do not see the sides of the actual things that he has done on his own and not through his marriage. His sportsmanship has not come just through him and a wife bringing him up through golf. He was committed through the up bringing of his immediate family members known as his "father's and mother's" support and training through their income and their drive he became what he has today and not through a marriage made for many whom do too envy overall. Was to a perfect marriage.
Although, she has not come out with her own transgressions, which I think should be in the public eyes known as her violent and controlling temper through a 9-iron blast on his face. I only state this, because the first thing that was attacked was his life, his drive the controls of his overall income that made him this way through the public's eyesight, I think. I still think that it should be a limit to control the public announcements, behind the infidelities, because he is known as an ideal whom is too publicly known. It should to me be sanctioned as a fine or a year off of golf taken from him behind the publicity that was brought up in public's view. I still think through permanently removing him off of his sport is too harsh as Carlie Sheen has stated that he did too not commit no.
shabazz, you need to learn how to write complete and clear sentences.
very good points made, and those I had never considered. I thought it was great commentary, keep 'em coming.
