Slideshow: Halftime with The Who, Super Bowl 44 shows Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend still rock (photos, videos)
You may have watched tonight’s Super Bowl 44 for the game, but many were amazed by the halftime performance by The Who. With lasers, a huge crowd, and harmonica, The Who relived their glory days as they rocked the Sun Life Stadium in Miami. The crowd went wild and could be heard mouthing choruses to Baba O’ Riley, Pinball Wizard, and Who are You.
The show lasted 12 minutes and was aired live on CBS; the response has been great, judging by those who took to Twitter and Facebook to voice their critiques. Fans who were ready to hear more of the set will be happy to learn that following the live performance, the set will be available on the video game “Rock Band titled “The Who Super Bowl S-mash-up.”
Roger Daltrey spoke with NME.com and described his anticipation regarding the performance, “It's a strange one. It's an honour to do it, but it's only 12 minutes. It's kind of weird! I suppose it gives people time to take a slash and that's about it. That's what you do at half-time isn't it?! You plan your toilet break!"
In addition to the performance tonight, The Who previously announced that a special sample of The Who’s ‘My Generation’ was remixed by Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am., and the proceeds will go to Haiti Earthquake relief. The mix includes guitar solos by Slash, and can be found online at Amazon.com, The Who.com and Dip Dive.com. The funds will be donated to Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response.
