Presented each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globe Awards recognize and honor outstanding achievements in both television and motion pictures. The first Golden Globes were presented in January 1944.
Today, the awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical were announced. The Golden Globes will be held on January 17, 2010 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and will air live on NBC at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The following actresses were nominated for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards for the year ending on December 31, 2009.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical
Sandra Bullock- The Proposal
Marion Cotillard- Nine
Julia Roberts- Duplicity
Meryl Streep- It’s Complicated

Meryl Streep sweeps the category in a stunning announcement of two Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by an Actress. Meryl Streep is the most nominated actor or actress in the history of the Golden Globes. This marks Meryl Streep’s 25th nomination, she has won the award six times; one for Best Actress Comedy Musical, two for Best Actress Drama, two for Best Supporting Actress, and one for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television.
Sandra Bullock has received two prior nominations, both were in the same category: Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical. Marion Cotillard won the Best Actress in a Comedy or musical for her performance in La Vie En Rose.
This marks Julia Roberts’ seventh nomination. She has won three Golden Globes for her performances in Erin Brockovich (Best Actress), Pretty Woman (Best Actress Musical/Comedy), and Steel Magnolias (Best Supporting Actress).
Last year’s nominees for Best Performance by Actress in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy were Rebecca Hall for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Frances McDormand for Burn after Reading, Meryl Streep for Mamma Mia!, and Emma Thompson for Last Chance Harvey. Sally Hawkins was last year’s winner for her role in Happy-Go-Lucky.
