Glenn Beck loses even more advertisers after calling President Obama racist

In this May 5, 2009 file photo, newscaster Glenn Beck attends the Time 100 Gala, a celebration of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world in New York. (AP)

Several companies that ran ads during Glenn Beck’s show, distanced themselves from from the talk show host in early August due to the the public comments he made about President Obama during a guest appearance on ‘Fox & Friends’ Aug. 4. Now, even more are leaving Beck's advertising roster, arguing they don't support inflammatory speech.

Beck, a Fox News Channel Commentator, said he believes President Obama is a racist, and that the President has “a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

Beck made his remarks during a discussion of the July arrest of African American professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Obama’s public reaction to it. Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct after a misunderstanding about a break-in at his home. The President made a comment saying the police acted stupidly in the arrest of his friend.

Several advertisers, such as Proctor & Gamble, and Progressive Insurance distanced themselves immediately from Beck. Lexis Nexis, who owns Lawyers.com also pulled its advertising and said it has no plans to return, while Proctor & Gamble and Progressive Insurance said Beck advertising placement was an error that would be corrected. S.C. Johnson was next to announce they made a mistake in running ads with Beck and would not be doing so in the future.

To date, 33 Fox advertisers have removed their ads from Becks show including, CVS Caremark, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Sprint, and Clorox. The campaign that prompted such advertisers to distance themselves from Beck was led by ColorofChange.org, a group that promotes political action among African Americans.

The Clorox Co. released a statement saying, “we do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts.”

According to the Associated Press, the advertisers leaving Beck are not leaving Fox Network. Irena Briganti, a network spokesperson said the companies have only requested to be moved elsewhere and Fox has not lost revenue due to the change.

The AP reports that this could mean advertising on Beck’s show could become cheaper. Last week, some of his advertisers included a law firm seeking asbestos victims, a male enhancement pill, a water filter company, and a company selling medical supplies to diabetics.

This is all political....they will start with Beck...and try to work their way to O'Rielly. this move is not going to have an effect on his viewers, The advertisers..are just following suit...Can't get him one way..they try another..
Fox, the only cable news, that tells it like it is..for the people of this country. Others..sugar coat it..for the sake of politics.

Good riddance to his former advertisers. There are plenty of others vying for an opportunity to advertise with him, including OPRAH. (Oh yeah, she's black,)

This works both ways, the idiot NEGRO who who run the BS color fo change Org. may be in for a shock. I know several companies who have told vendors if they enact policies due to pressure from the above-mentioned jerk they will be cut OFF! I have also enacted a boycott of black owned vendors and will not hire blacks. Blacks in America live off the good graces of 88% of us Jews,Asians,Europeans and Latinos have had enough of Obama...

Now if none of us buy from these companies, the unemployment rate will soar and the companies can thank the radical haters who started it all.

Great idea. I'm boycotting CVS, Proctor and Gamble, Wal-Mart and the rest of the companies who pulled their advertising. The best way to address Beck's comments is to present competing ideas. The best ideas will win out. Silencing Beck by attacking his advertisers is just as insidious as any alleged hate speech.

I think Glenn is right about Obama having racial issues. He omitted to having issues with his own grandmother for what he called fear of blacks. He attented an anti white church for a very long time but would not admit that he knew what was being preached on a regular basis. Common since tells me that the only people not knowing what was being said in that church would be those who never attented.

When is it bad for business for telling he truth. If the advertisers really have a mission. Tell them to go to XM radio and listen to the cultural gems that host some of the Black Hip Hop shows. This is the cultural that Obama wants us to endorse and blend with.

Glenn Beck is insane and only insane companies would still advertise on his program. If only the advertisers had taken it a step further and removed their advertisements from FOX altogether, then maybe....just maybe, we would be rid of his insane meanderings once and for all.

AngryMatt - you're the reason we need people like Glenn Beck so they can expose the Insanity of people like you who's thinking is allowing this country to be taken over. I hope you like this New America that you criticize Glenn Beck for challenging. But don't bet on the conservatives to just lay down and let it happen. We can boycott too. Oh, and I can't wait for 2010. Then you can kiss all your democratic congressmen GOOD-BYE!

I listened to Glen today and I'm very disturbed and overwhelmed by the stupidity of some people in the U.S.,trying to deny what was said is truth.Talk to an immigrant from Cuba and see if Castro's intelligence won them freedom from oppression.I have heard some of their testimonies.
People die daily trying to come to America to have free speech,a good life, education and you narrow minded, lazy, ignorants out there want us under dictatorship. How sad for all of us,May God have mercy even on you,HE DIED FOR YOU ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY,that you might speak truth and become a decent human being!

This is not a hateful remark, just saying that the difference between Beck and others is he seems to be fomenting some kind of violent overthrow of the legally elected government. I know it's hard to feel like a minority but maybe it will help some of you understand black rage. Beck is very talented at throwing lots of irrelevant and non-factual trigger words in a pot an making a big ol hate stew for you folks to feed on. I'm a middle age white lady who doesn't like hip hop and booming cars or kids with droopy pants and don't get me started on girls looking like strippers on their day off. But I am not so threatened by this that I judge all blacks (or the whites and latinos who do all that stuff too) as communist anarchists who hate America. Really, don't you think it's possible that you're all a little too ramped up on hate hooch? We have a decent man as president and judging by the speed which he is turning gray he takes the job seriously. Examine youself for signs of racism.

Glen Beck, to steal a phrase is a GREAT AMERICAN. The Constitution Of the United States is at stake and I for one don't want to live in a socialist country, if I did I would move to one and if you do YOU SHOULD MOVE to one. See ya.

Sign me up Too! I wouldn't give any of those firms a dime (like it is still worth anything). Let's ALL boycott the firms pulling their ads to kill free speech. Furthermore, let's support their competition and give them ALL of our business instead.

    Jeff:

We live in a socialist country already. All of our roads, most of our education, all of our military, most of our water and most of our trash disposal is covered by the government.

Let's face it: The biggest truly capitalist countries (Brazil, Mexico, a slew of chaotic nations in sub-Saharan Africa) are pretty crappy places to live.

That said, I'm fine with your opinion, so long as you share it civilly, which you appear to be doing. Neither me nor most of my conservative friends can stand the idiots who can't wait their turn to talk at the town hall meetings. I'm very glad you use printed words -- props to you for doing that.

Please don't let them run you off or silence you. America needs your truth and Rush's. Keep up the good work. I'm for you all the way. I will not buy from these companies who quit you.

Glenn Beck is a true patriot--as much as the military heroes. We so appreciate his exposing the corruption and racism in this government and are so proud of Glenn for his stance on exposing Acorn, Van Jonnes, and the others. We are appalled today that our President didn't even bother to go the the memorial services at ground zero for the 9/11 victims, however could go to NYC for Walter Cronkite's memorial service and for his own incredibly expensive date night. What a pitiful example he is to the world. I feel certain this country is once again the laughing stock of the entire world. Keep up the great work Glenn. We are remembering you, your family, and your efforts in our prayers. I fear for your safety.

I have written to Wal-Mart, Clorox and Sprint. I told them that they have a choice of where to advertise and I have a choice of where to shop and what products to buy. I will continue to send addition letters as I get the info on who is refusing to place their ads on the Beck show. I told them that we have a crisis here in the US and if they are not part of the solution they are part of the problem. I boycotted K-Mart following their bankruptcywhile their top CEO's got millions in bonuses when they left. Join in and write to these companies. Our voice is stronger than the opposition and the radical groups who are turning our country into a socialist country.
