Flood insurance needed as NOAA predicts historic floods (photos)
Blame in on El Nino, global warming, or whatever you fancy, but the rains are coming and so are the floods. As the northeast continues to pump water from their homes and over a million sandbags are positioned in North Dakota, NOAA says that more floods are on the way.
These aren’t just any floods either, they're floods of biblical proportions and are expected to break records. If you don’t have flood insurance, now is the time to get it ,says the United States Government through their program FloodSmart.
Rivers are cresting and the waters are rising as some in New England report as much as five feet of standing water in their homes. The damage that comes from flooding is long lasting and involves more than emptying the water from buildings. Flooding can lead to mold damage and the impact of flooding is long lasting.
Preparation is key and homeowners, as well as renters, should look into flood insurance and create an emergency preparedness plan to minimize the loss of property and life. As forecasters announce that as many as 35 states nationwide may see historic floods, the time to act is now.

I thought flood insurance providers require the insured to be enrolled (and pay) for at least 30 days until actual coverage kicks in. This keeps unprepared jerks from buying coverage just before a predicted flood hits, paying little into the insurance pool and extracting resources they frankly don't deserve.
