Five year old boy pulled from rubble eight days after Haiti earthquake (photos, video)
A 5.9 magnitude aftershock ripped through Haiti today at approximately 6:00 a.m., causing fear and panic. The earthquake was first measured at 6.1 then was downgraded to 5.0. Yesterday, Haiti earthquake rescue workers pulled a 70-year-old woman to safety, today; it was a five year old boy. The rescues are being deemed miraculous and have given hope that more survivors may be saved. The boy’s name is Monle Alise.

According to reports by Monle’s uncle, Monle was rescued at approximately 12:30 today after his uncle and four of his friends heard him crying under the rubble. Monle’s uncle was searching the rubble for his brother and sister-in-law, Monle’s parents, when he heard the cries of the five-year-old boy. It is believed that Monle’s mother perished in the earthquake.
Monle suffers from severe dehydration and was immediately transported to a hospital. The dehydration was critical and doctors have stated that his body was beginning to feed off of itself. CNN’s Anderson Cooper reported that Monle was given a small amount of water to drink but was not allowed to eat due to the extreme condition he was in.
The current casualty toll has been listed at 72,000 and it is expected that the death toll will rise.
