Sarah Palin vs. David Letterman

The debate between Sarah Palin and David Letterman keeps heating up and today the unveiling of a new website, Fire David Letterman (firedavidletterman.com) takes the fight to a new level. According to the website, Fire David Letterman, a rally is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 4:30 Eastern Time at the Ed Sullivan Theater, located at 1697 Broadway, New York New York. There is a Facebook group entitled Fire David Letterman Rally, with the following mission statement; “CBS should fire David Letterman, Just like they fired Don Imus.” Those planning on attending the rally are encouraged to join the group.

Instruction for those attending the rally are provided at the Facebook group, and it is recommended that they bring PG rated signs, keeping the signs free from obscenities. The rally is scheduled for two hours, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Beginning with comments made by David Letterman on his “Top Ten List” when the Alaskan governor was visiting New York, David Letterman began by referring to Sarah Palin’s appearance as “slutty”, however, the debate evolved into a battle between the two when Letterman referred to one of Palin’s daughter’s as getting “knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.” Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, was traveling with her and many believe the inference was towards Willow and not 18-year-old Bristol.

Some feel that debating who was the topic of the insult, 14 year old Willow or 18 year old Bristol is beside the point, joking about a young woman being raped isn’t funny. Others argue that it is only humor, crude humor at best, but humor nonetheless. David Letterman himself, in a pseudo apology referred to his comments as crude, but denied that he thinks statutory rape is anything to joke about, an allegation made by Sarah Palin.

Whether the publicity will ultimately hurt or advance Letterman's ratings have yet to be seen.  Though there is truth that there is no such thing as bad publicity, the Palin feud might be what Letterman needs to see an increase in ratings.  At a time where David Letterman was being overshadowed by Conan O'Brien's debut as the new Tonight Show host, there is a possibility that the Palin feud will only advance and increase his viewership.  Hey, we know what happened when SNL tackled Palin: they saw their best ratings in over a decade.

Get a life!! As an educated, independent woman with a family and a business, I find this whole think extremely annoying. It was a joke, people! I don't care which kid it was about, it was a joke. Who says one can be a feminist and not have a sense of humor. Sarah Palin is an embarassment to women everywhere because of her ignorance and close-mindedness. Don't act like her by pushing for censorship and retribution. It's a free country, people! Free speach, freedom of expression, free press, free media. If you don't like Letterman, don't watch.

He is a dirty old man - what happened to decency on TV. Where are all the "slutty flight attendants" he referred to and also the parents of children for his making very sick jokes about a 14 year old. I, for one, think he should go - as did Imus.

How does an 18 year old getting “knocked up” by another adult automatically get labeled as rape? It would only be statutory rape if he were referencing the 14 year old, which he wasn’t. Dave getting fired over this nonsense? Fat chance, he is laughing all the way to the ratings bank.

What's this world coming to when a comedian's jokes carry the same weight as the statements of national leaders. David Letterman is in the comedy business. He's not a public servant making life and death decisions. He apologized for the Palin remark. What more do you want? He's in a ratings battle with Conan and there's no such thing as gentle humor. Humor has to have an edge to be funny and there's never been a joke that didn't offend somebody. If that's the case Henny Youngman would have been a pariah for "Take my wife, please".... This is lunacy and what's scary is if Palin uses the fallout from her excoriating remarks about Letterman for this joke as a steppingstone to the 2012 presidential election. This is a woman who wants to attack Russia as her first act if she heaven forbid were elected president. Sara Palin is as shallow and knee jerk as it gets in the political arena.

When David lettermen makes jokes like this he's just getting dumped in the pool of all the other people who make comments like this, either in public of in privite, and then go home and watch porn while their wives and kids are in the other room. This stuff makes me sick. Our morals and conscience is in the sewer. This kinda comedy, on late at night or not, works on us, it erodes at our conscience then one day when we just don't care anymore.."it's no big deal" we just add to the septic condition our world is in. Women should not stand for this! I, being a father now will not stand for my son to have this "it's no big deal" attitude toward women, or anyone for that matter. My father never stood for it and mother will I. David letterman should quit.

What close mindedness? Just because she doesn't share your grand illusion of the bold new "IMAGINE" world, as seen by GODLESS no value people like yourself?
What Letterman did was not a joke to me, anymore than it would have been a joke to you for someone to call OBAMA'S little girls "HOE's in training". OR are you so open minded that you would find that humorous too?
    I seriously doubt it!

Why are liberals so bitter? Palin lost the election, and liberals are still obsessed with her. Sore losers are bad, but is there anything more pathetic than a sore winner? Could you imagine Johnny Carson making Ed Muskie jokes 8 months after the election? It is so sad to see so many people who are so full of hate. How can anyone defend a joke about a grown man knocking up a teenager?

First off, Dave Letterman has made fun of anybody and everybody. I figure Palin wants publicity to be president in the next election, so she can use government money on a new 1.5 billion dollar wardrobe(really,no offense Palin. I don't want you going after me too.) She was the reason I swung my vote to Obama, just because she makes dumb choices. But as for Letterman I know you won't get fired, your career was built on joke to topics and people. If a person can't suck it up and turn the other cheek, then they should not be in government.

CHILL OUT you're wasting your time go complain about something real like how people with cancer who grow their own bud legally still get prosecuted by the govt? Or how they do more time than coke dealers? Seriously America lets grow up a little the tattle tale system is outdone in 2nd grade!

32B The reason for David Letterman apologie is clear, he was pressured by the shows advertisers to do something because they don't want anybody boycotting their products. That means his apologie was not from his heart. Did we all forget that David Lerrman had a little bastard with his airline slutty girlfriend & didn't want to marry her. How is it that the left can say anything about the right & get away with it. Letterman is the stupid ASS HOLE & should be fired from the show.Did we all forget that Don Imasu was fired & had to apoloy not once but a few time to the girls in the baseball team. Were is Al Sharpten? How come he didn't come to the aid of Sarah Palin? Come on Al give us all an answer to my question. This is a double standard & as a women & having daughters & granddaughters, I'd like to take on David Letterman. He is a dirt old bastard & he's not even funny, ha ha ha! I think he get his rocks off by talking about little girls. Let him talk about his little bastard son Harry & the slut he finally married. How does it feel David for someone to talk about your son & slutty wife? I bet if he talked about Michelle Obama & their daughters, David Letterman will never work again.
