Tuesday, cities around the east coast recorded record breaking temperatures as the heat wave went into the second day; the heat wave is likely to last through the weekend. Tens of thousands of people were without power Tuesday, as more and more air conditions are overtaxing the electrical system.
Tuesday, many cities from Virginia to Massachusetts had temperatures above 100 degrees. Wednesday, the humidity is expected to rise even higher and make the heat wave situation along the east coast even more dangerous.
Tuesday, New York City hit a record high of 103 degrees, and Philadelphia 102 degrees.
As of early Wednesday morning, seven deaths had been reported and blamed on the record heat, including a 92-year-old Philadelphia woman who died Monday, and a homeless woman in Detroit.
Over 6,000 people are hospitalized each year for heat exhaustion in the US.
During excessive heat, people should be consuming one quart of water per hour, according to a Good Morning America report.
