Pierce Marshall, whom she was battling for his late dad's fortune, but prosecutors ultimately decided there wasn't enough evidence to charge the Playboy Playmate who died in 2007 from a drug overdose, newly released files show. Anna Nicole Smith was investigated by the FBI in a plot to murder the son of her tycoon husband following her husband’s death. Newly released FBI documents show that the organization investigated Anna Nicole Smith throughout 2000 and 2001. She was never prosecuted.
Smith, born Vickie Lynn Hogan, had married billionaire J. Howard Marshall who was 63 years her senior on June 27, 1994. Anna Nicole Smith was 26; J. Howard Marshall was 89, the tow married in Houston, Texas. Thirteen months after the marriage, J. Howard Marshall died on August 4, 1995.
E.Pierce Marshall, J. Howard Marshall’s son immediately engaged in a bitter battle over Marshall’s estate with Smith. The estate was worth an estimated 1.6 billion dollars, and the two fought for half of its worth. Anna Nicole Smith had claimed that Marshall had told her verbally that if they were married she would receive half of his estate.
The documents detailing the FBI’s investigation into the murder for hire plot were obtained by the Associated Press under the Freedom of Investigation act. There was no evidence to prove that Anna Nicole Smith had participated in the plot and the investigation was closed.
When questioned, Anna Nicole Smith denied every planning to kill E.Pierce Marshall and stated that such a plan would not have made sense as Marshall’s estate would have remained tied up in trust.
Anna Nicole Smith died on February 8, 2007 from a drug overdose.
