Anna Nicole Smith estate denied J. Howard Marshall’s oil fortune
A federal appeals court determined on Friday that the estate of Anna Nicole Smith will not receive any of the hundreds of millions her late husband promised to her.
A 15-year legal battle ensued between Smith and Marshall’s family after the billionaire died at the age of 90 in 1995.
Smith died of a drug overdose in 2007, however, her toddler daughter, Dannielynn, 3, would have inherited the fortune.
Smith married Marshall in 1994—when she was 26 and he was 89. He died only 14 months later and never made provisions for Smith in his will, which ultimately led to the legal problems regarding who was entitled to his fortune.
According to ABC News, a Texas court initially ruled Smith should receive nothing, however, a Los Angeles bankruptcy court subsequently awarded the late model $474 million. That amount was then reduced to $89 million in federal court. Today’s ruling means Smith’s estate will receive none of Marshall’s money.
