In an Aug. 12, 2006 home video, a pregnant Anna Nicole Smith is seen disoriented, confused, and donning clown makeup. She thinks her pregnancy is just gas and that a baby doll is actually her child.
Prosecutors allege that Smith’s attorney/companion, Howard K. Stern and two of her doctors—Khristine Eroshevich and Sandeep Kapoor—conspired to keep her in a drug stupor in the two years preceding her death.
Stern’s defense argues the model turned reality TV star, is just acting for the camera in the disturbing piece of footage.
Nine-year-old Riley Shelley is also in the video, perplexed by Smith’s statements. At one point the girl cannot decide whether the actress is pretending or has “brain trouble.” The footage was shot at Smith’s Bahamas home at the little girl’s birthday party.
Six months after the video was recorded, Smith died from “acute combined drug intoxication,” according to CNN.
At one point in the footage, Stern, who is shooting the video, says “…this footage is worth money.”
CNN reports that during testimony in court, an investigator said that Riley witnessed Stern pour liquid “medicine” for Smith. In addition, Riley’s mother, Gina Shelley, testified she saw Stern give Smith pills.
Smith’s estate is currently engaged in a lawsuit against Riley’s father, Ford Shelley, because he took the tape from Smith’s home the day following her death.
A legal dispute involving the Shelleys was already in progress prior to Smith's death over the ownership of the Bahamas home. Smith claimed Shelley’s father-in-law, G. Ben Thompson, had given the home to her.
According to CNN, Superior Court Judge Robert Perry announced the ‘clown video’ did not make a difference regarding his decision to send the case to trial.
