Andrea McNulty will drop lawsuit if Ben Roethlisberger admits to rape

Andrea McNulty, the woman who filed a lawsuit against Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger, says she’ll settle the case if he apologizes, admits to raping her, and gives $100,000 to the Committee to Aid Abused Women.

McNulty’s attorney, Cal Dunlap, said his client is willing to settle to demonstrate the suit was not filed to obtain Roethlisberger’s money, as alleged by his attorneys.

According to Dunlap, McNulty’s "…only interest has been and is to regain the dignity that was taken from her.”

He said Roethlisberger’s attorneys "have a total misconception of what motivates our client” adding, McNulty “is a victim of sexual assault who, as with all such victims, was violated in every sense of the term.”

Dunlap also accused the athlete’s attorneys of "intentionally conceal[ing] evidence of this and other wrongdoing by Mr. Roethlisberger while making unfounded and malicious accusations and unwarranted threats against our client and against this law firm.”

Roethlisberger’s attorneys have rejected McNulty’s offer. Attorney David Cornwell said "This case is about Ms. McNulty's contemporaneous statements and conduct that prove her allegations are false. Against this backdrop her proposal is bizarre. We previously offered Ms. McNulty a graceful exit. Now, we will continue to press our defenses and claims and pursue our application for sanctions.”

Last month Roethlisberger’s lawyers made two settlement offers to McNulty. According to USA Today, the first demanded that she dismiss the suit and sign a release; while the second said that if McNulty joined them in a motion for sanctions against her own attorney for not making a reasonable inquiry into her story, Roethlisberger's lawyers would release her from all claims.

McNulty rejected both settlement offers.
