October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all month the Urban Style Examiner will be highlighting companies that are committed to this cause. Also since studies have proven that living healthy lifestyle can decrease cancer risk, companies that are going green will be also be highlighted.
Barbara Campbell of Barbara Campbell Accessories, a New York based Cuban America jewelry designer is one such designer that decided to go green.

In her own words:
In one of my earlier jewelry classes I learned how to solder. I did not like the fumes and the solder material. From that moment I decided I would go "green", not because it was trendy, but because I liked it. I try to select stones form local areas (like Montauk beaches), I do not solder, I use fluorescent lighting in my studio, and very little electrical tools. I love the feel of my hammers and pliers. I have quite a selection of pliers, all different sizes and shapes. Some of my sterling silver pieces have green words and phrases built into the designs, such as Eco and Green. My next catalog and business cards will be printed on recycled paper.
Barbara insteads favors wirewrapping and considers herself a wrap artists. She was introduced to the art by her mother- in- law while on a family vacation in Vermont.
Barbara names her Cuban heritage, upbringing in Washington Heights and mother nature as her creative influences. She often draws upon her experiences with family and friends to name her collections.
Barbara is as committed to being kind to the earth as she is loyal to her customers. She will customize pieces based on her clients needs and gladly repair any piece that gets damaged during "normal wear and tear".
