Paige Miles and the remainder of the top 8 girls took one last shot at claiming their spot in the coveted American Idol top 12 Tuesday night.
Performing everything from Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" to Patsy Cline's "I Fall To Pieces," the girls made Tuesday's round interesting but, for some "the end of the road" appeared to be coming sooner than later.
For Paige Miles, one of the last to perform Tuesday, the "end of the road" is very near according to 'Idol' judge, Simon.
"I think this could be the end of the road," Simon told Miles after a performance that failed to make judges smile -- ironically, Charlie Chaplin's "Smile".
While Miles said she chose the song because it reminded her of late entertainer, Michael Jackson, judges say the emotion needed for "Smile" was simply not there Tuesday.
"This is the time to show us who you are, and I don't think that was the right song for you to choose," Ellen weighed in, followed by Kara who said it was "all wrong".
On the other hand, judges were able to smile when both Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus took the stage to perform "Give Me One More Reason" and "House of the Rising Sun" respectively. It was however, Didi Benami, who surprised everyone with a strong performance Tuesday.
Facing elimination last week ,(nearly going home with Michelle Delamor) Benami stepped up to the plate with a performance of Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" that earned praise from Simon.
"I thought that was head and shoulders above anything else we've heard tonight," Simon offered shortly after the performance. "You've proved that you were an artist."
So who's going home ?
Final results will air on this week's elimination round, which airs Thursday, March 11 at 8 pm on FOX.
The top eight guys, including Michael Lynche, Andrew Garcia and Todrick Hall, will vie for their spot in the top 12 on tonight's episode, airing at 9pm on FOX.
