The season premiere of rapper Pepa’s –the other half of the super rap duo Salt-N-Pepa – new reality show “Let’s Talk about Pep” premiered last night and boy was it a relief from the ordinary.

Most people get that familiar sour taste in their mouths when they hear that a celebrity is getting their very own reality show. Most equate the new show with ridiculous antics and dramatic moments that are must see TV, but Pepa’s new show proved to be more than just another celebreality wonderland.

The show follows Pepa and three of her friends (former BET News host Jacque Reid, professional basketball player Jason Kidd’s ex-wife Joumana and voiceover artist and radio personality Kitty). The four ladies’ personalities are as diverse as a pack of skittles and yet they are all experiencing one thing, the dating life.

“Let’s Talk About Pep” shows Pepa attempting to break her 4-year celibacy, Joumana planning to get back into the dating scene, Jacque ready to settle down and start a family but not in that order, and Kitty, well, it’s not quite clear what Kitty wants but she sure is the life of the party.

The show is like a concoction of Sex and the City meets reality TV with a cup of brown sugar. The first episode included everything from Jacque asking actor Lamman Rucker about his thoughts on shelling over his sperm for conception, Pepa’s first date in 4 years ending in her date setting his hair on fire and Kitty hooking up with a gentleman that has a foot fetish; and again, all of this transpired on just the first episode.

“Let’s Talk About Pep” definitely has a lot of potential for being the most watched show on VH1 because it is refreshing and new. It doesn’t follow in the steps of the dating reality shows that have become somewhat redundant on the network and it doesn’t show the ladies in a negative light. It is a real life beauty and the beast look into the life of being single and living in the city.
