Fantasia Barrino celebrates her Back to Me album release at Rain Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For the majority of this month, Fantasia has been at the center of a scandal that surely everyone is well aware of. So you can imagine how happy and full of joy she was for the release of her third studio album Back to Me.

Fantasia’s new LP has garnered positive reviews with many citing that the singer offers up sass and soul on Back to Me as well as lessons of letting go of unhealthy relationships; something she needs to reacquaint herself with.

During the wee hours of the morning in Las Vegas, Fantasia was all smiles at the infamous Rain Nightclub inside the Palms Casino resort. Fantasia wore a black and silver shimmery mini-dress paired with knee-high black boots and topped off her outfit with a silver ring shaped like a spider.

In addition to walking the red carpet and partying the night away, Fantasia also took to the stage to perform for the crowd that gathered at her album release party.

On Friday, Vibe.com posted an interview with Fantasia where the singer blamed her skin color on why her involvement with Antwaun Cook garnered so much attention.

According to Fantasia, members of the media gave her situation more attention because she has African features as opposed to the other female entertainers (e.g. Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, etc.) that were all rumored to be the “other women.”

Fantasia told Vibe when asked if she felt her skin color played a role in the media’s obsession with her situation:

“Yes, I do. I really feel like it does. I was on Nancy Grace, CNN, every gospel station and in every magazine and every newspaper. It was on. You would have thought I was the President or something.”
“I’ve battled and have had to deal with that before. Lord forgive me and I don’t want to offend anybody," she says, "but when [I did Idol] it seemed like everybody there was Barbied out. Slim, long hair, light eyes, light-skinned. And here I come with my dark skin, full nose, short hair and full lips — it was hard."

Fantasia also said her skin color and other dominant features is the reason why she isn’t asked to appear on magazine covers or why she doesn’t appear in a lot of red carpet coverage’s.

“They never put me in those magazines [featuring] the red carpet. Everybody there has long hair and everybody is bright-skinned, and I was like, ‘But wait a minute. They never gave me that.’ That bothered me. And then I tried hard to find people to dress me and they still would not put me there [in those magazines]. One day I was like, ‘that’s okay’, but I had to get to that point. I am a dark-skinned, full-lipped sister and it’s all right.”

yes i do agree, but at times our own people can be our worst enemy.... it still is a hard knock life for blacks though, my mum always told me that as black people we have to do twice as well as whites just to get where they started... deny this all you wish but its still true today... but we just have to not focus on the negative.. just keep trying your best... peace..
