The "DMV" making its way to Major Urban Music

The week of November 9th will be remembered for quite some time in the DC Metropolitan area.  Often referred to as the "DMV", the place that has spawned such music greats such as Marvin Gaye officially saw its hip-hop son Wale, release his album "Attention Deficit" on Tuesday via Allido/Interscope records.  The album which boasts features from Pharrell Williams, Melanie Fiona, Marsha Ambrosius, Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele, has received critical acclaim and as of recent is holding position at the #2  slot on Itunes. Supporters have come from far and wide, as celebrities such as Chad Johnson and P. Diddy have encouraged fans via their twitter page to show support to the D.C. native who is  determined to "put his city on the map".

Also releasing his album exclusively on Itunes this week was hip-hop giant 50 cent, which debuted "Before I Self Destruct" at the #1 slot and features DMV production team, "Team Demo", which has been quietly making noise in the industry over the past three years. The team which features producer/engineer Danny "Wise" Zechariah, Expernz, J. Cosell and Dial Tone, produced the street single "Crimewave" which was released on the web October 21st and was accompanied by a mini-movie that has attracted millions of viewers to date.

Poised and ready, the oft overlooked DMV hip-hop movement has positioned itself to make a huge impact in 2010 and beyond.  As the support continues and the opportunities arise, its now left up to the fans to decide what, and just how significant the outcome.
