In a bid to prepare fans who will attend the much-anticipated "Under the Lights" game this Saturday, September 10, officials at the University of Michigan have put together information that covers not only the many activities taking place before, during, and after the matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but also recommendations on staying safe and being respectful.
The activities include a Friday autograph signing on the Ann Arbor campus by Maize and Blue legend Desmond Howard, who will be honored on Saturday for being named recently to the College Football Hall of Fame, part of the pre-game celebrations for this first-ever night contest scheduled at Michigan Stadium. Also on Saturday, the ESPN College GameDay crew will set up shop from 9 a.m-noon at Ingalls Mall and a tailgate party for students will happen at Elbel Field. In addition, there will be a tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks--which include 18 U-M graduates--as well a flyover immediately after the national anthem. Following the game, the Michigan Union will have "food and fun" from 11 p.m-2 a.m. Learn more about these and other activities on both Friday and Saturday.
In response to concerns about possible logistical and safety issues as a result of the meeting between two of college football's most storied programs, and the huge crowd expected to be in attendance for the game and in Ann Arbor throughout the day and night, U-M leaders participated in a press conference on Tuesday. The speakers were Michigan Athletic Director David Brandon, Vice President for Student Affairs E. Royster Harper, and Department of Public Safety Chief Greg O'Dell. Watch a video of the conference.
The university's athletic website, MGoBlue.com, has built a page filled with details about the Under the Lights game, at which the Wolverines will sport retro jerseys. ESPN will televise the matchup between Michigan and Notre Dame, beginning at 8 p.m ET, and will webcast the action on ESPN3.com.
