"When I was a freshman I wish I had known..."

A Washington Post blogger will launch her college freshman advice column tomorrow.  Her twitter feeds have already produced pretty humorous, albeit very serious responses.  Here are a few answers in response to the question "When I was a freshman, I wish I had known......"

1.  Park legally.  This has got to be numero uno. Those fees show up regardless, and you rarely win in appeal. So it's best to avoid them and if you get them, pay them before they double up.

2.  Research jobs and salaries associated with your major.   Here's a list of the best and worst majors for people right now.

3. Take classes that push your boundaries.  If you're bad at math, take statistics but audit the class to save your GPA.

4.  If you don't know or think your credit score is important, just believe that it is.  Don't accept credit card offers.

5.  Remember your GPA is super important.  Mathematically, it's hard to recover later on.

I'll add that when I was a freshman I wish I had known how much less stressful  undergraduate evening classes were.  Evening classes are generally filled with a diverse group of citizen thinkers and that made learning much more interesting.

And it was cool to be in a class with people the same ages as my parents.
